WM Hall
Will Oldham/Bonnie Prince Billy is surely nailed on for an appearance in the next couple years My 2020 prediction is that Ezra Furman will headline
SweepingTheNation
When the announcements start being made can we have a separate thread? Seemed weird putting all the reaction and updates in a predictions thread. I imagine there'll be a few noisy young punk bands after the success of Idles, Shame etc this year. As for personal hopes: Courtney Barnett Owen Pallett Spoon Sharon Van Etten Cloud Nothings No Age Wire Cate Le Bon BEAK> Allison Crutchfield/Swearin' Jen Cloher Lord Huron Haiku Salut Chorusgirl Robert Forster Fightmilk Fröst Hilary Woods
Yokel Again
Sharon Van Etten please.

I know Green Man and EOTR share a lot of acts/ acts at one fest plays the other the following year but I'd be surprised if this happened Edit: David Byrne? Was surprised that neither EOTR or GM booked him this year and seems he is still doing shows as has some booked for this autumn. domjon
With the amount of Aussie talent they've had recently hopefully theres a decent chance of getting Tropical Fuck Storm over. Love that record. Would love a headliner that really appeals to me for once...something like Nick Cave, Spiritualized, The The on the Woods...or GY!BE, NMH at the Garden...a man can dream
shoebox
I think that by keeping with the high numbers of female acts on the EOTR bill, we'll probably be looking at a Woods headliner of at least one of: Angel Olsen Courtney Barnett Sharon Van Etten Possibly PJ Harvey or maybe Sleater Kinney? These are all on the assumption that some recent bookings are out (St Vincent, Joanna Newsom, Cat Power, Feist) and some are probably too "pop". Neko Case and/or Jenny Lewis subbing or headlining Garden. Really want Will Oldham and the return of Okkervil River. I'd love Hop Along to play, The Decemberists would always be welcome. Obviously Nick Cave is the dream, but think he's far too big for EOTR.

WM Hall
my main request for next year is that we have less of the novelty cock-rock bands like Fat White Family, Shame and IDLES... The weird combo of distortion, hyper-masculinity, and pseudo-leftist politics only attracts really irritating greasy 19 year olds. 1

Guy Incognito
Hahah i love the fact you've described IDLES as hyper masculine when a lot of their music is literally a deconstruction of toxic masculinity

SweepingTheNation
None of those bands are what 'cock-rock' is, namely post-post-Led Zeppelin/hair metal flagrant displays of often toxic masculinity. As rhg says most of Idles' songs are about how damaging toxic masculinity is. They're also, give or take the odd Dawson/Feist, pretty much the acts turning up most often in the 2018 review thread. Just because something is not to your taste that doesn't make it shite & you appear not to fully understand what cock rock is - try You Tubing Motley Crue if you wish to explore this genre. I loved FWF and would have been at IDLES if not for clashes and I can give your "greasy 19 year old" 47 years, although I will admit that some do find me irritating. Amy Lawn
I like the shout of Sleater-Kinney headlining this joint, they very rarely fall below the mark of pure perfection for me. Live and on record, they just kill it every single time. Young Fathers and Grimes would both be good Woods headliners also, and I'd love to see Sharon Van Etten headline the Garden stage after watching only Woods headliners this year. It'd be really good to see at least one act I've never seen live before as a headliner, it was my first time watching both Vampire Weekend and Feist this year, and I reckon it always makes it feel more of an event when its your first time seeing an artist. Can't really think at the moment who'd be a good fit for that, but I suppose that'd be EotR's job to come up with suitable candidates. wolfamongwolves
Shame , Idles Iceage . Great stuff keeps the EOTR fresh . Hopefully No Age next year. Diversity makes a festival interesting.
Anotherciderlife
Surely next year has got to be the year of Courtney Barnett? How’s shes not played yet, I don’t know. Apart from that, I’d welcome some new stuff along with a few returning heroes.... Beirut Andy Shauf New Pornographers Big Red Machine (Ha, some hope!) Cigarettes After Sex Hinds Grandaddy Phoebe Bridgers Radical Face Wilco (What a Woods stage headline set that’d be!) Khruangbin Leif Vollebekk Horse Thief. And could we just have Ezra Furman as the EOTR house band every year..? Edited September 6, 2018 by Anotherciderlife
LowerMead
Much as I’d love to see Grandaddy there again, it’s not clear what their future plans are following Kevin Garcia’s sad passing, has all gone very quiet. Would love to see them return though. I’d like to see Bill Ryder-Jones and John Grant back again, along with British Sea Power. All previous performers but just artists I really like. RustySpanner
I agree that at least one female headliner is a certainty - and from the suggestions above I would have thought Courtney Barnett would be most likely. Maybe SVE or Angel Olsen for a garden headline slot. Having just given the new Spiritualized album a spin, I think they could well be a possibility for one of the other headline slots. Maybe a return for John Grant for the other (not my choice but they do like their 'favourites'). I never get these predictions right though so who knows!
