Sku
Well the predicted Facebook grumbling has certainly arrived. A poll was created on the Boomtown Chat Facebook page. Currently at 396 agaisnt, 152 for. So it would certainly be an uphill battle if they tried to go ahead with it. And Lak's original post on his Facebook about the matter has attracted over 800 comments already....
stuie
I find it a bit hypocritical to be honest. Boomtown is an event which, despite certain initiatives, is ultimately bad for the planet. People travelling all over the country, being entertained by generator power, creating loads of waste - and it’s only people that eat meat that are the problem. But despite that all are able to take measures to lessen the impact. I don't think it's hypocrisy for Boomtown to want to lessen their impact. I'm guessing, but I think boomtown helping push just one person to be a lifetime veggie or vegan would have a hugely bigger effect than (say) using a bit less diesel for power at the festival. It's not only about the difference made only inside the fence of the festival. I think Boomtown are probably going about this wrongly by being preach-y to a probably-unsuitable audience. They're the ones who book the traders, so they could choose to offer up a much greater proportion of veggie stuff without having to bring in a rule of no-meat. It's an extreme jump, and could come across as preachy. They already announced around a month ago that for the 2019 festival they are giving priority to vegetarian, vegan and sustainably sourced meat vendors, but not going entirely meat free. That was met with very little controversy, and it's probably the right way to approach the issue for the time being. I think the idea was always to do this as a gradual process, but Lak sort of let the cat of the bag, perhaps a bit sooner than people were ready for it. Of course, there has been no announcement from the festival officially on the matter, so perhaps putting this out there on unofficial channels, has just been a litmus test to gauge opinion. FuzzyDunlop
I'm a meat eater. I find the move interesting. A risky & bold one. Fair play to them. I'll back anyone who has a moral stance. Whether I agree or not isnt the issue - they are doing it because they believe it is right. I'm down with that.

Alex Winstone
Any Chance of Beck, Massive Attack and The Prodigy headlining the Town Centre? Can see Frank Carter, The Bronx, Refused, Cancer Bats in the Earache Express.

Im going for Prophets of Rage, Aphex Twin & someone not on the radar. Limp Bizkit came from nowhere. Someone like the offspring (Id love that so maybe Im just hoping)
Tommy101
Yeah Beck would be very out there even for their booking strategy but they do like to mix things up so never say never. Frank Carter anywhere on the bill would be a lot of fun. The other EE bands there seem realistic to me too. I get the impression Prodigy wont be around this year though. mr flow
For those that were asking previously, SW4's announcement this weekend might have something to do with why a certain act's not playing this year at Boomtown.

No real shock. Leftfield, The Chemical Brothers & Underworld are all active this summer. I think they'd all fit it well at Boomtown. Not long to wait now til 8th Feb. Radi0Head
As a veggie I hope boom town doesn't go meat-free. I don't think its the way to go about changing peoples attitudes because forcing your own views on to someone else just doesn't work. However I think giving vegan and veg priority to certain locations, discounts on the pitches whatever is a good idea as it would promote veganism by more subtle means. AMI can subvert our stomachs by putting all the meat stalls in weird locations. Did chase and status get ruled out, I see they're playing SW4? So many big dance acts (+massive attack) active at the moment the line-up announcement is sure to be big. Roll on Chase and Status, Massive Attack, Chemical Brothers and Prophets of Rage. Tommy101
I've only ever caught the end of an Underworld set at another festival and it looked amazing. Would be awesome at BT

Although, i'd say they're more suited to the Town Centre at Boomtown over the Lions Den. As it's just the two of them on stage, they might get a little lost on the Lions Den.
Tommy101
I was actually thinking of Leftfield when I posted that last post but I think it's actually all true for both acts, only Leftfield was in Sonic.
Alex Winstone
Gonna give it another go Lions Den: Fatboy Slim, Massive Attack, Chase & Status, Underworld, Chemical Brothers, Pete Tong. Earache Express: Behemoth, Naplam Death, Death Grips,Marmozets, Shame, Møl, Basement, Milk Teeth, Puppy, Remo Drive, Viagra Boys Others bands: Run The Jewels, New Order, Public Enemy, Aphex Twin, Bring Me The Horizon, The Specials, The Interrupters, The Skints, Loyale Carner, Young Fathers Edited January 23, 2019 by Alex Winstone

The Interrupters would also be sick, but with Slam Dunk, I'm not sure I would see it happening. Highly expecting Holy Goof present globes to be somewhere at this. Crucast is hot property at the moment, but not sure they will be back after being on Sector 6 last year.
Radi0Head
I hope fat boy slim is nowhere to be seen at boom. I was bemused when I saw him live and all he played was EDM? His light show was pretty intense though so he has that going for him. the specials headlined 2 years ago so I don’t think they’d be back just yet. loyle carner is getting busy again with a tour so this is a good call. He’s fantastic live.
