I've just been reading about her funeral. Wow, that was one hell of a send off.

Contemporaneous with the funereal of John McCain, the Republican who we all ended up loving, if only in contrast to the utter vulgarian, Trump. Who'd huv Thunk.

Aretha and McCain had that one thing in common, they both loved to "Praise the Lord", McCain somewhat more quietly than Franklin.
This was also their common flaw IMHO. Excusable in Aretha' s case 'cos she sounded so dam good doin' it. Both Americans who will be sadly missed by the sane, liberal majority and most fair minded folk for that matter. Says something about 'Merica that.

Like Al Sharpton said yesterday, "We don't all agree on everything, but we all agree on Aretha"

('cept Trump obviously)

The Arc of history is long, Aretha will be remembered on that arc, "a black woman in a white man's world"
