'victim' gets it as the joke it was meant as.

Unless we're giving up humour, there's nothing there.

Her reaction doesn't seem like she does

That sort of 'banter' is ok for the lads but probably not for women. Not the best way for the first female baloon d'or to go down

I'm not trying to suggest it was particularly appropriate, but much like the recent 'joke' about vegans, there's different levels of offence that can be taken - and some are being as ridiculous with the offence they're taking as the 'joke' was in the first place.

There's always a butt to a joke - particularly with this one. :P

she's made comments since. She accepts it was meant as a joke, and that it wasn't sexual harassment.

It may not be sexual harassment, but it's clearly a sexist and demeaning joke.

twerking is by-nature sexist, as it's something done predominately by women ... but, you'know, so is the very thing* she was getting an award for.
(*'women's football', not 'football')

In your take on things what women do cannot be spoken about, and then there's no award where any joke can get made.

It was a feckin' stupid 'joke' to make at professional awards because it trivialises, but that's all it was.

That's the point. It's an award for football. The twerking was in his own sexist head.

Or is 'It's all just a bit of banter ' still an excuse for sexism?

As I pointed out already, it's not an award for football it's an award for women's football.  If there's sexism in his twerking 'joke', there's no less sexism in the award itself.

It's like saying the best actress awards at the Oscars is sexist!

It's the first female baloon d or. It's clearly a massively sexist and inappropriate comment. No idea why you're trying to minimise it's sexism.

if you think it's ridiculous to reference gender where applicable, why are you complaining it's sexist to reference gender where applicable? 'Twerking' is about the same female as best actress.

You'll have to tell me why it's sexist, instead of screaming sexist.

Do bear in mind that we're talking fully within the context of an award that's gender-based just as twerking is gender-based.

Ermm... It's like saying it's not sexist if he made a joke about her having kids. Are you genuinely saying his comments about twerking isn't sexist?
