Hmm, you would have thought there was plenty of pasture for them, if they are kept indoors in an intensive farming regime there would be a greater risk of TB spreading rapidly if one got infected. Maybe Eavis's cows don't live the idyllic life represented by the festival when they showed the "cows are back" video after the cleanup.

Compassion in world farming are against intensive dairy. https://www.ciwf.org.uk/our-campaigns/dairy/

I'm not saying Eavis uses this method, I have no idea, maybe Ommadawn knows more.

Edit, there is little evidence of cows on google earth pics and on the numerous site visits done by people on here.

They're a prize winning heard. You only get that by strictly controlling what they eat and you can't do that with them galloping around Worthy Farm. There's mostly sheep grazing at the farm these days.

Down here, the farmers shoot them (illegally), load them into the back of their Land-rovers and dump them on the roads. You often see two or three together on the road. People think it's due to them using 'ancient badger pathways' but sadly it's not.

Oh wow! I guess that might be happening here too. Not sure why they'd just sling them in to the roads though? If they are land owners then surely they can sling them in to a bush on their land somewhere, and let nature take it's course. Foxy Loxy must love a bit of dead badger. And no, no that's not a euphemism.

It does sound like a lot of trouble to go to.

I know a guy who likes to eat roadkill and he says often finds lead shot in the badgers he 'processes'. He's a bit of a character - he once joined the local Conservatives, invited a number of them over for dinner and served them up a mixture of badger, fox, squirrel etc and only told them once the meal had finished. Clue mass vomiting after which he promptly resigned from the party again.

Well I guess that answers my question, what do you make of the "cows are back" video? Propaganda for the average festival goer or maybe proof that that cows are partially pasture fed (even if it is only 1 day a year).

I've been trying to find the video about the badgers that live by the workers house at the bottom of muddy Lane..

I think if Mr E was going to kill badgers he would start with those..

Personally I think a vaccination would keep all sides happy..

Hold on - what if the badgers are antivaxxers? Imagine trying to get a badger to hold out his or her little arm? People are going to get bitten...

My little knowledge of Badgers is that they dig for their food and are partial to the odd flower bulb. Cows are famous for munching grass and chewing the cud. I'm thinking that both these methods of feeding run a very high risk of getting "smashed out of your Bovine/Mustelidae face" on Glastonburys green GREEN grass. I think that this should therefore result in very little interaction between Badgers and Cows, Especially after the Badgers had a fit of the giggles and reduced the cows to paranoid wrecks. ? ? ( the penguins there because there wasn't a badger. It's black and white so it's in.)

As chiefly a farmer by profession who doubtless wishes to protect his core business by any means necessary I am unsurprised that Eavis appears less informed by the complex scientific debate than he is the rhetoric of the local farming community. Over the years Eavis has been involved in many public initiatives to promote issues such as environmental responsibility and socialist principles that are important to him. Perhaps it is therefore reasonable to try and convince him that the culling argument isn't quite as polar as it might initially appear.

the evidence of the complex scientific debate is far from conclusive.

The evidence suggests Eavis is more likely to be on the wrong side of argument, but the reason the argument remains is because that scientific evidence isn't clear.

I'm seriously considering boycotting the festival over this, and some other things I've heard regarding worthy farm's treatment of animals in general.

do you think Eavis' treatment of animals is worse than at other farms?

Without knowing any details, I've always presumed that it's likely to be better than the norm for a number of different reasons, including the fact that Worthy Farm is a comparatively rich farm as a consequence of the festival.

Michael may well personally value the farm over the festival, but the earner at Worthy is the festival, I'm fairly sure* of that.

BTW, I thought you were telling us all you were a farmer for a minute there!

*not completely sure.  A trip to the companies house website may ensue...

there were cows out over the weekend when I ran round the farm.  It depends on the time of year. Lots of sheep between October and March -ish. A lot of the fields (Other, Pennards, Dairy) are down to wheat that is currently about a foot high. It is a working farm and not a place full of field ornaments.

I reckon Michaels got enough in the pot now that his farming business, even through periods of being non-profitable, is pretty secure.

Nope, not a farmer, though I did grown up living next to one deep in darkest Wiltshire...

I guess I'll know how strong my resolve is in october.

Curious Russy, what else have you heard?

Apparently Basil Brush wasn't given his own dressing room when he last appeared & just before he went on stage someone shoved their hand up his arse and it's made Russy uneasy.
