When was it first at the festival? The last year was, what, 2004? 2005?

Was it that good? My instinct is to say it was miles better than the current SE corner, but is that just rose tinted specs? I cant remember that much about it really. I might have played ping pong v the devil there one year though. Not sure.

Do they hate the north west?

Yeah, it does seem a bit odd. If there was a screening in the Stockport/Manchester area I'd definitely go. I might go to the one in York - I used to go to that cinema back in my student days, when it was an Odeon, so I'm interested to see it in its new guise.

I think that'd very much be rose tinted specs to be honest. A lot of the attraction back then was that it would have been fairly unique - there wasn't really anything else like it at Glastonbury at the time, and none of the other mainstream festivals were doing anything even close.

From my memory, there really wasn't much to it compared to what we have now - if you transplanted Lost Vagueness from 2002-04 into the modern festival, there'd be huge complaints about how little there was to do, and in terms of what it offered it was absolutely eclipsed by Trash City in it's final year (2007). But then you didn't have half as many people automatically heading for the area as soon as the main stages stopped so the expectations were different.

the first could be measured by a number of different things. I think the last was 2007.

it was a bit too much no-substance compared to the offerings now.

New(ish) Grauniad article on the film:  https://www.theguardian.com/music/2018/apr/28/leaving-lost-in-vagueness-glastonbury-pioneers-hedonism-documentary

Some great comments, my favourite, from 'Rodneybooze':

"I played there many times in the 80s, and there was always a lurking commentary about it becoming "too corporate". to an extent it's always been part of the trip; it's not cool enough just to be there, you have to be part of a really cool sib-set who 'really know what's going on', and remember it when it was just medieval brigands shoving mushrooms up dragons arses. For free."

Lost Vagueness: the only place I've licked a live electric toaster being held through a window by a stripper.  I haven't been to the SE corner at night for 5 years as I've worked most nights since.  But not really knowing what to expect there (pre-festival internet spoilers were minimal then) was one of the biggest draws for me.

PS I joined in December 2008 - Happy 10th year me!

Not being a prude but surprised just how pornographic it became towards the end. Literally stumbled into a performance on the Sunday evening once which involved a dancer going down on a dildo, resulting in gasps from a few (mainly girlfriends)...
