Rob Zombie had a bigger crowd than Halestorm just the day before too

I had an amazing time and all the bands killed it, highlights being Trivium, Jinjer, Lamb Of God, Kvelertak, Slipknot, Halestorm and of course Tool who made everybody else look like complete amateurs.

Fair fucks to the festival for the effort they made to keep the arena in a good condition btw, lots and lots and lots of straw spread out every day made things miles better. Shame the Village was un-rescuable

Just paid 6.20 for a pint in London.

But I digress.

Royal republic were a find for me, as we Those Damn Crows.

halestorm nailed it. Especially for having a female fronted band headline a stage.

other highlights include Amon Amarth, Slash and what i saw of Die Antwoord.

Also, how good was the danish quarter?!

Yeah, loved the Danish quarter but didn’t have a chance to spend much time in there.

cant imagine a bigger crowd than i saw for Korn vs Darkness in 2011 on that stage

Yeah. I was at both and Korn's was deffo bigger. You do get more people left of stage now though since they put the cut through in to third.

I had a great time despite the weather, queues and security. Security were obviously briefed to stop people taking in alcohol but when that's what 10/12 on a gate are doing meanwhile any one who fancies it can wander into the campervan field without getting checked for a wristband it's a bit daft. Caused unnecessary delays and they still didn't stop the drink getting in. Meanwhile vans got robbed. There were no patrols and no communication when people had issues or got stuck in the mud. My pal waited 16hours for a tow into the field despite him blocking a fire lane.

Bar queues Friday were just ridiculous and ruined the fetival for many. Yes they were better on Sat and Sun but mainly because no one was drinking the stuff any more. Own supply was the main tipple of choice. Their takings must have been well down. I tried to buy beer but it was so annoying I just stopped. I paid my money to watch bands, not miss them in queues. My review is pasted from the official forum.

Still got the blues, when you remember the performances, the queues and security issues are forgotten............................

Sumo Cyco 7 Good solid start to the day and almost made up for the beer queue fiasco

Clutch 8  Always great

Deadland Ritual 9  Wow! Didn't even know Geezer had another band. Great sngs and Sabbath stuff sounded awesome.

Opeth 9.5 Why have I never watched these before? Band of the day for me.

Slash ?? Watched from bar queue and might have been a bit out of it. Can't really remember much.

Me first and the gimme gimmes 5 First couple of covers ok but gets really samey really quickly.

Rob Zombie 8 Better than I expected after last seeing him on main.

Def Leppard 7 Couldn't get in the tent for ATG so watched last 4 songs. They're not my thing but sounded quite good and way better than when I walked away in 2011.

Alien Weaponry 9  Loved these boys since Bloodstock. It wasn't quite as good as that performance for me but still had me welling up. WTF is that all about?

Royal Republic 9 Was gonna watch Bad Wolves but friends convinced me to check these out. Glad I did. Great. Funny. Entertaining as fuck.

Elvana 8 Just great entertainment. Might grow old after a few shows but at a first viewing I loved it. This day started really strongly!!

This day then didn't interest me more than getting hammered at the campervan until.......

Three days grace 9 This is a great band who don't play here often enough.

Die Antwoord 9.5 Me and my pal kept looking at each other in awe of how unexpectedly good this was. I thought I'd like it, I was amazed by how much. Band of the day. I'll never see them again and I'll hardly ever listen to them but on that day they were just what I needed. Great show. No you fuck off! :)

Halestorm 9 When I saw these in 2010 in the old Pepsi Max 3rd stage I reckoned I was seeing future headliners. People laughed at me when I told them. I still reckon they'll headline big festivals. Lzzy was awesome, the sound was awesome but the setlist wasn't the best for me. I reckon they won over a lot of new fans though.

Slipknot 9 Where did the cement come from? Most dangerous ground I've ever watched a gig from. When you got shoved you couldn't move your feet fast enough as they were set in thick porridge. Slipknot were Slipknot with new masks but the performance was the same as I've come to expect from them. Might give them a miss for a while as, whilst excellent, it's just not pushing my buttons any more.

Dinosaur Pile Up 8 Good start to the day. Woke me up for sure.

Godsmack 8 I love these boys but ruined it with the pointless drum solo/duo in a short set. FFS. Could have played a couple more decent songs.

Amon Amarth 7 Was expecting more from my first viking experience. I don't know what didn't do it for me as the show was good, they were solid enough but it just didn't wow me like I thought it would. Will have to go see them on one of their own shows if they ever decide to come to teh North part of the UK.

Somehow got lost in merch queues, bars, socialising and the moment. Solved my Pumpkins Fever333, Shikari Slayer quandary by missing them all.

Tool 10 Band of the weekend. The sound, the power, the performance. Everything was perfect. Maybe not being able to see the band members on screen added to it but my 1st Tool experience was spent with either bleary eyes or closed eyes anyway. Probably up to 2nd behind Rammstein 13 in my all time Download performances.

Vans got robbed?? That’s particularly shit. We were higher up the van field and, thankfully, had no issues.

also managed to get in and out ok, which I imagine would have been a bitch for those lower down.

Aye robbed. No one by us had issues but we heard about it Thurs I think so everything was locked away when away or asleep.

It was my quickest exit ever at 10am. No queue at all and I had no issues with the mud. I drove up vacated pitches until there was a clear bit to hit the gravel road and got up that fine. Some bits looked horrendous though. Should say I was as far down the field as you can get.

Highlights on Sky Arts this weekend. A show on Sat/Sun but not sure if the latter is just a repeat. I know Def Leppard and Slipknot are definitely being covered but no mention of Tool anywhere, unsurprisingly.

It’s not a repeat, they always have 2 highlight episodes
