I have my top 20 listed. I'm going to give them all a play over the next 2 weeks and decide.

Been one of the best years I can remember.

Still got a few albums I've been meaning to listen to but haven't gotten around to yet (mainly the King Giz albums I missed, Tyler The Creator and Vince Staples) will do that next month and will probably give and update.

  1. Brand New - Science Fiction
  2. Sorority Noise - You're Not As _____ As You Think
  3. Mount Eerie - A Crow Looked At Me
  4. Converge - The Dusk In Us
  5. Ostraca - Last
  6. Swordfish - Rhodia
  7. Idles - Brutalism
  8. Paramore - After The Laughter
  9. Lorde - Melodrama
  10. Oliver Houston - Whatever Works
  11. Slaughter, Beach Dog - Birdie
  12. Kelly Lee Owens - Kelly Lee Owens
  13. Remo Drive - Greatest Hits
  14. Kendrick Lamar - Damn
  15. The Smith Street Band - More Scared of You
  16. Gnarwolves - Outsiders
  17. The Menzingers - After The Party
  18. Captain, We're Sinking - The King of No Man
  19. Tricot - 3
  20. Tera Melos - Trash Generator

Though all in all I wasn't this impressed with this year. I love the top 10 and really dig the Slaughter Beach, Dog album but nothing much of note, though I spent most of the year just finding more obscure Emo/Punk acts via Bandcamp/Sophie's Floorboard instead of listening to new music. Don't know why I even did a top 20 really.

Also the thing I probably listened to the most was the latest Hot Mulligan EP (though they technically released it late last year, it kind of got an official release this year).

Really didn't enjoy this that much. It was a disappointment for me and felt really bland and boring. Compared to Whatever, If Ever the band has fallen a bit in my opinion and was out shined by a few other emo releases for me

  • This Is The Kit
  • QOTSA
  • Wolf Alice
  • Slowdive
  • Idles
  • Pumarosa
  • Julie Byrne
  • Wolf Parade

I've been telling people my top three at St Vincent, Waxahatchee and Slowdive. So I guess that.

Also, I haven't listened to Julien Baker yet so that'll probably tag on the end too.

Also also I haven't had enough time with Noel G or Bjork yet

Wasn't hugely into her album at first but it's grown on me loads, the first half especially is fantastic. Definitely edging its way into my top 10.

1. The Killers - Wonderful Wonderful

2. Run The Jewels 3 (I've counted this for 2017 all year even though it dropped early in the last week of 2016)

3. LCD Soundsystem - American Dream

4. The Cribs - 24/7 Rock Star Shit

5. Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.

6. Lorde - Melodrama

7. Arcade Fire - Everything Now

8. At The Drive-in - in•ter a•li•a

9. Joey Bada$$ - ALL AMERIKKKAN BADA$$

10. HAIM - Something To Tell You

Also particularly enjoyed the albums from The xx, Paramore, Dan Auerbach, QOTSA, Wolf Alice, Gorillaz, Frank Carter, Sampha, Young Legionnaire, Mark Lanegan Band, Daniele Luppi/Parquet Courts and surprisingly Noel Gallagher.

Still planning on getting round to Tyler The Creator, Sheer Mag, Kurt Vile & Courtney Barnett, Foster The People, Joywave, The Horrors and Mura Masa so maybe they'd end up in contention.

Disappointments from bands that I like were:

- Maximo Park (change of style that didn't really do it for me, just an ok album)

- Passion Pit (although it went down pretty well so I should probably give it another go)

- Future Islands (exactly the same as Singles but nowhere near as good)

- Kasabian (liked it at first but there's no depth at all)

- Stereophonics (just crap)

Also Circa Waves' first album was fun but this year's effort was embarrassing.

I didn't even know there was a Bad Breeding album. Need to stop looking at this if I want to finish assessing 2017 albums any time soon.

Was planning on doing this too. It being absent from so many publication lists must be because of the six days it existed legally in 2016 cos it does not deserve to be washed over.

RTJ3 has to be included in 2017 doesn't it?!

We'd already decided on our collective top 10 way before it was released last year.

Who put the top 10 together last year? Noble effort but can't remember for the life of me who it was.
