Booked time off, always the tricky equation about how many days off are required afterwards, especially if you want to ensure you can squeeze in as many other hols as possible over the year.

Yes. I’ve thought long and hard about it: I reckon Thursday is the best day to return to work. Monday I’m driving back, Tuesday I’ll be washing stuff, sleeping and mainlining tea, and by Wednesday I can be more up for exercise/socialising/watching highlights on tv etc. Then thurs and fri back at work, with the weekend as suitable rest ballast.

Those people who return on Tuesday - or even Monday! - are impressively hardcore. I shudder at the thought of it

I've tried most variants over the years. These days, assuming the journey on Monday is OK, my stuff goes straight in the washer when I get back. Tuesday as you say resting and tea. I've had Wednesday before, but with *ahem* less toxins in my body these days it's not such an issue ?

I differ from most of the regs here, as I hardly ever look at highlights. I've recorded or downloaded them plenty in the past, but tbh they tend to just make me sad - either the stuff I've seen makes me sad I'm not there now or the stuff I missed makes me sad I didn't get to see it. Bit silly I know ?
