OK. I'm back, and I've remembered the other story. Somehow I once ended up on a campervan thread on the Preloved sale site. How you manage to do that eludes me right now. Anyway, I answered an email asking if anybody like wild camping in lay bye's. Gormlessly, I said I'd not done it before, but wouldn't have no objection to using them. Then came a veiled series of proposals, that me and my mrs should meet up with her and her fella, in a lay bye in the Midlands somewhere. Even more gormlessly, I said that it sounded like a great idea. I then explained the situation to my wife, who confirmed that I was indeed gormless, and also pointed out what they were really asking of us. Oh, the sweet stupidity of innocence.

Gormless Yog I like your misses lol... AND NO THAT'S NOT A PROPOSAL old son lol

Have you opened that flipping tube yet and is it OK..

Ahh, the tube. Nope not opened yet. I'm kind of having a Mexican stand off with 'the tube' at the moment. I think it's getting the better of me psychologically.

It feels weird without Glastonbury to focus on this year,  I think it's because I don't miss obsessing over it. But that's likely because I have a holiday instead which has taken all my planning time up. I'm also undecided if I want to go to next years festival - would I regret the decision? Likely! But it would free up cash to go elsewhere!

Oh oh :-(, I haven;t been here for ages and when I come back there is talk of Glasonbury days being over - sad times , but I get it

I'm hoping and praying I have a few more in me yet, would love to do the next two to the 50th and then take a review ......

Probably been asked a gazillion times but do we think that T day is the 7th October, my bestest buddy has just booked her partners big birthday party around T day for me (so avoiding saturday 6th) , despite most venues being available on the 6th, and not the weekend before she kept searching until she has found a venue for the week before - what a sweetheart- the decision to go/not go would have been brutal, all 4 tickets buying buddies would all be at the party and therefore off island, not with all our PC's and probably all hungover with only ipads to go by - anyway phew breathing a sigh of relief and hoping to get flights booked shortly :-)

I'm not sure my days at the festival are over - I think I'm just having a moment, I felt the same with the last fellow year. I just realised how much more things I can squeeze into my year! Mr. SheffieldLady is against the idea of not going proclaiming "but it's our thing!" (that and 1000s of others). I think I'm just thinking about the potential of going away again, enjoying another country, and even maybe going to a festival abroad?

Of course, I'll likely change my mind come October! We're starting to look into a honeymoon (honestly, I'm not sure what's come over me recently, but I've become obsessed with escaping real life) I think, it's because my 30th is looming. And, I've had quite the terrible time so far - I had a week from hell, my car got wrote off after someone crashed into it (he pulled out, didn't look), my airbags went off, I got out the car and spotted it was a write off and ended up in A&E with a sore back, neck and chest, was advised to spend a week off work, so I did. 2 days into that week off (spent lying on the floor, looking at the ceiling), I got a text from my then boss saying that they've emailed me to end my contract and employment with the company. (As you all know, it was for a sex toy company, not Ann Summers or LoveHoney) I was shocked and hurt and in a bit of a panic about my job situation. I managed to find another temp position, but it's only a temp job. But hey - it pays the bills! To end my week from hell, the boiler broke and I went to Scarborough were a seagull shat on my face!

Blimey!  I hope things pick up for you soon SL.

It's lovely out there this morning, so that's a start I suppose.

Hello sheffieldlady,

Only just read your post. Sorry to hear that you had a week from hell. And it does indeed sound like a week from hell - I mean a seagull shitting on your face is the final straw.

As an aside, may I ask you how your old sex toy company sold their products? I'm just wondering if it was from a shop, website, or both, or was it via people holding sex toy drinks parties? I'm not really interested in sex toys per se, but am interested in how a company competes with Ann Summers in this market.

I'm not really interested in sex toys per se, but am interested in how a company competes with Ann Summers in this market.

I'm under no legal restraints on the information I give away.. both online and stores (they buy old little chefs on a1m and places off motorways). In all honesty - the sex toy market is very very crowded, a lot of online only offerings, a lot of me too products, mostly made in China. That much is true for Ann Summers, Love Honey etc. China makes most of the toys. Not only that - there is no product design or innovation involved on companies, it's very much China greats a new product and people buy exclusivity of it.

Ann Summers focus on being on the high street (because they don't sell porn!) and offer parties that type of thing.

LoveHoney - online only, lots and lots of cheap products, lots of offers going out via email daily. But, they do offer some unique products and have lots and lots of choice.

The company I worked for - try to focus on couples, getting couples through the door, getting couples to shop together online. Difficult, given that a lot of the information that intelligence gives you is that it's often men buying products, women tend to spend more time choosing. But men are buying a lot more - to us on themselves basically. In terms of competing? I'm not sure they're bothered about the other two, you can't get close to them when you're not ready to commit on restricting and a decent spend on Adwords on Google. The key thing is that they continue to grow their sales year-on-year. My job whilst I was there was focused on growing sales online - which I am pleased to say, I did quite well. We had around a 80% growth online last year, mostly through SEO work, Google AdWords, content writing and email offers going out to loyal customers. The main problem I faced was the fact it's a family run business and having people who struggle to understand that for a business to grow you need to commit to the online market place meant that getting the right budget and support was tricky. Bricks and mortar is by no means dead in the water. But people really need to think about their price offering, store layout and experience in store - that is why Ann Summers is going, their price offering is good - always have a sale on.

So to answer your question - they didn't compete with either Ann Summers or LoveHoney but ignored what was happening and focused on themselves!

It was an interesting job, I enjoyed it a lot. But I didn't enjoy being in a family-run sex shop. It was a tad weird at time and unprofessional.

I'm in the camp that everything happens for a reason. I hated my time there because of management - and I think it did me a favour in that I got out. I wouldn't have just quit without another job to go to. I found this temp job which is a bit dull but pays the bills, and could open doors to other roles. I'm also much much happier when I go back home after a day at work and I'm not dreading the next day. I didn't realise how big an impact the crappy environment was having on my mental wellbeing. Things are better now.

Hello sheffieldlady,

Thanks for taking the time out to write that interesting and informative response, it's really appreciated. Well, I can see that you really know your shit - if you'll excuse the expression. I get the impression that you know it upside down and back to front. Perhaps the time that you had at the family business wasn't a waste, after all. Have you thought of doing it yourself? Doesn't have to be sex toys. You're well on the ball. I tried it once and it was successful. I made about 64 quid on my first sale. Then it was 20;s and 30's regularly. Unfortunately I had to stop it because both me and my wife went a little bit doo lally, in the head. It's a long story. Anyway, you know how to do it. I'd recommend giving it a go. I know that it's parasitically capitalist, but there's no taking away the fun in getting paid to 'virtually' do fuck all. :)

Hi Everyone!!!

apologies for my absence, it’s been a tough few months where I have been in a pit of depression, something I’m not overly confident about speaking about just yet, but I’m feeling good and at the moment and wanted to say hi!

hope everyone is doing well?

when is T day again?

big hugs!

Paul

It usually works like this, Coaches are usually the first Thursday after pay day (first of the month) main sale on the Sunday.  So that makes it 7th Oct this year. We were advised of this by the Farm when trying not to have a clash (again) between tickets and the Festival Run.
