Anybody knows what happened there? I was walking on the railway line and there was a huge crowd because of Liam at the other but then we were stopped. The police were there with horses and a tractor carrying thatchers cider in the middle of the way. It looked like the tractor had run over a person (looked like a woman but I'm not sure). They were getting her on a stretcher. It didn't look good.

anybody knows what happened and if that person is fine?

Ah man. I walked past this, didnt see it but saw the woman under the tractor. She looked ok though so thought maybe she had been hot but not too badly. Walked away thinking it wasnt too bad, sounds a lot worse by that article.

Doesn't surprise me that someone got injured in this way. There seemed to be a massive lack of common sense from the teams driving the tractors round the site this year. I was stuck in a crush whilst Rag N Bone Man was playing Other stage - basically nobody was moving and it was completely rammed, and then the recycling team started driving a tractor through. It was unbelievably dangerous, people were having to push and shove to get out of the way because there was nowhere to go.

I was in said crush. Why on earth they thought it would be a good idea to drive a massive tractor and trailer though one of the biggest crowds of the weekend at the other stage is beyond me. Surely whatever it was could have waited.

Although I agree with the fact driving tractors along routes that are majorely busy is foolish and dangerous it also works both ways. I can't remember what day, but along the left side of the pyramid as you look it at mid afternoon three bin lorrys were driving along with traffic stewards shouting at people to move out of the way, the first lorry then attempted to do a left turn into a narrow gap and the traffic steward was shouting at people to stop and move out of the way while the lorry was frantically beeping, as people kept trying to squeeze through in front of it between a tiny gap between the lorry and hedge, the lorry kept having to slam its brakes on as yet another idiot stepped out In front of it and tried to squeeze through. It's not something people would ever dream of doing in real life but somehow at Glastonbury they think their immune to being crushed by a bin Lorry.

Either way this could be a good or bad thing. Obviously there will be some sort of enquiry and they may stop vehicles like that moving through at peak times, or the may close the whole area off and stop people moving through entirely while any vehicle is coming along making it harder to get about.

Yeah I was in there but thankfully managed to wriggle out the back and walk through tents. Saw the tractor and was just thinking why on earth??? Surely there must be other ways to have the vehicles get round the site without putting people at risk like that. Would be so easy for the tractor to miss one person who couldnt get out the way

It's frustrating but reality is people have right of way and with an event as busy as glasto people probably will have to frantically run across like that from time to time.

I was trying to get out before rag n bone man and it was incredibly difficult but this was largely due to the massive amount of people sitting on chairs or lying down, if everyone was stood up there would have been no problem at all

Every year the annual report by MDC brings up the question of vehicle movements around the site. They've gone to lengths to minimise the movements, especially at busy times, but they also realise that some traffic is essential. I suspect that they'll recommend a much harder approach in the future.

People don't have a right of way over vehicular traffic on regular roads outside of designated spots, like pedestrian crossings. There is however a duty of care on the part of a driver, but quite honestly no sane driver would ever want to hurt a pedestrian.

I'm expecting to see far more stewards escorting vehicles in future...

About 1am on Saturday evening there was a 2 tractors and a bin lorry trying to get into the bottom of Pennard Hill by the Railway. It was so so dangerous with barely anyone there to control the crowd. I couldn't believe my eyes when i saw it happening

I was on my way back from Avalon to Oxlyers and the railwa was shut just as I was walking by Other so I must have just missed it happening. I just remember a steward standing on top of his jeep and not really saying much until it got quite busy around him. Thats when he redirected us all. But getting from Other stage to camp via the field rather than the railway was nearly impossible. Definitely wasn't safe with everyone pushing the way they were.

On the way to JP there's loads of stewards blocking the road whenever cars come past. This doesn't happen on the railway with more people, traffic and bigger vehicles. Strange.

I think that's because that's an actual road, as opposed to a pathway shared between people & traffic. Vehicles are usually traveling a lot faster around there

Same apples to people on foot around said vehicles.

I'd hate to be a driver in that environment - watched plenty of people walk right past me as I'd stopped thinking it wasn't safe - they clearly didn't agree. Who's fault is that if someone steps under your wheels?

I saw a lot of very frustrated vehicle marshalls over the course of the weekend, people just ignored them, I'm not saying that this poor woman did, just highlighting what a tough job that and driving the site vehicles is.

also some of the marshalls seemed a bit on the young and timid side, you need noisy bolshy types for that job.

l know what you mean  - l have been asked to help out in the past ( due to my straight talking Glaswegian ) and will make it very plain what l am after - the WBC Would avoid that route (takes longer but avoids Punters) - drivers are Excellent and do amazing work - safety before time..

I was working as a vehicle chaperone over the weekend.   No vehicles could travel around the centre of the site without us walking ahead of them.     The power of a whistle to get people out of the way as well as well as a polite bellow or three is amazing!.

Occasionally people jumped in front of the vehicles to try and cross the road especially if they were split up from their group but not very often.

We marshalled 7 stretches of road but this didn't include the railway track or around the other stage.  I don't know if other people did this? Perhaps they need to extend our remit?

At times thouh if the crowds were to thick to get vehicles down and people simply couldn't move Tom the sides we could call control and they would declare a lockdown.  This happened at times of the big acts such as Headliners, The Smyths at Williams Green on Thursday or Jeremy Corbin.

There also was a very strictly enforced one way system.  You couldn't for example drive straight between Acoustic and pyramid but had to go round past West Holts, Leftfield and then back up to Pyramid.   Everybody apart from emergency vehicles on blues and twos had to follow this rule.   Before this year literally the only person who was allowed to buck this rule was the Dalia Lama.

However David Beckhams fleet of 5 blacked out Range Rivers speed into site this year, drove to fast and refused to follow the marshalls signalling to go,round the one way system.  They just shot of towards the Pyramid stage regardless - d**ks!

We saw them on the path down from WG to Pyramid. Thought there had been an emergency the speed they were going down there, idiots.

was this the reason for the ambulance on the railway line? if so that was also very poorly managed and almost resulted in more casulties!

I was caught up in the crush, basically at one point I think on the wensesday or thursday eve though im not to sure there was a lot of people on the railway track, and we suddenly come across a huge crush because an ambulance was trying to get through, fair enough it was obviously there for a reason but there was a total lack of any crowd control around it and it was causing major issues. Basically there were lines of people trying to go one way and lines of people trying to go the other way, noone trying to cut any of them off until the crowd had died down, just a lot of pushing and shoving to the point where the crush was really getting worrying. our group were pinned right against the ambulance with another line of people going our way next to us and a third line trying to go the other way pushed up against the fence.

Now that ambulance although slowly was moving, all it would have taken would have been someone to trip or be pushed over and theyd have been under the wheels and seeing as we were right up against it being pushed it was very lucky noone caught a foot under its wheels as it was!

At one point during this crush it seemed to be getting worse and I was actually considering just pushing down the fence by the side of the railway just to give us more room and allievte the crush.

But rhe question arises why were security allowing this to happen? they must have known what was going on and how dangerous it was getting! All it would have taken would have been for them to temporally block people coming from one direction until the crush had died down and it would have sorted the situation as the situation was being caused by more and more people from both directions trying to push through....but they didnt and to be honest at the time that fucking annoyed me as its basic crowd control and `doing nothing` could have resulted in a very bad situation back there.

I went up to one of the security team just after the bit where the crush was to inform him of the issue and he basically shrugged and told me they were `aware of it`.......well if your aware of it why aren`t you doing anything to alleviate it???

Same situation with people like me trying to get out of the john peel tent after frank carter before killers, because there was no clear `people going in/people going out` paths being made by security as youd think there would have been with such a huge mass of people moving in diff directions all at once it was just a huge crush and could have been v nasty if someone had fallen over as I doubt theyd have had room to get up! Its all well and good them shutting off access to the field as they did to prevent more people trying to get in but they did nothing to allievate the crush inside the tent!

Crowd control def needs looking at next time around, it was very lucky none of these incidents resulted in people getting hurt.

Definitly need marshals on the railway line next time, for the reasons mentioned in my post.
