Crowd at the 3 Arena gig in Dublin last week ranged from teenagers to 50+...definitely clicking with all ages (which is useful for a Pyramid headliner). Glad they decided to sit this year out though, 4 of the last 5 festivals (albeit in ever increasing slots) would be overkill (I was even surprised to see them back this year after 2022...especially as Romance wasn't out yet, but they did play the 3 songs that were in the public domain at that stage I guess). If they remain on their current trajectory, then no reason they can't be part of the discussion...they're pretty prolific too so not impossible that they have two more albums released between now and summer 2027 giving them a lot to pick from to play a completely different set to those they have before at Glasto. The newer material also sounds much "bigger" if you know what I mean, sits more conformably on a bigger stage (whereas Dogrel was fantastic in small sweaty venues, the sound seems a bit "small" on the bigger stage at times (or maybe it's just more raw and less polished)...still love loads of it (and A Hero's Death), but the last 2 albums were made for headlining).
Olivia is an actress so theatrics make sense. But some stuff that's rehearsed manages to come across as spontaneous or natural. Other things do not. I'll let the poster speak for themselves as to their reasoning. Guaranteed the Glasto set will feature a cover alongside some special guest.
Hahah. I love nothing better than getting into a band that's been around for a while and it suddenly clicking.
It's a 'tail between the legs moment' when it's a band you actively hated or slated (this wasn't the case with Fontaines for me, but a few historically where I've hated them then they've become my all time time favourite - Radiohead the greatest example).
I tried to get into these the same time as Idles. I still cannot get on board with Idles. I really don't think it'll happen either. I was indifferent with Fontaines, and thought the first album was bang average. Maybe I will still feel that way about it. But I am now massively up for watching them live and have heard incredible things from mates who've seen them recently.
Fair f**ks to them!
Everyone is rehearsed to death. But that should never be a knock. I assume the middle section with the moon is the downer. But that has to be re done for a festival set anyway. We will know what that is in March anyway when she headlines the South American Lollas. Can easily throw in another cover or have a guest. If Chappel is before her that opens it up to some options. St Vincent, Alanis too.
