The Cure are headlining every festival they’re playing. They may not have top billing at some as they have multiple headliners per day, but they’re still very much headlining. No way are a band of their stature, famed for their often 3+ hour sets, gonna settle for an hour and fifteen on the second stage at Glastonbury.

While I want to agree with you, because I think they are playing the Pyramid, deservedly so, and that they'll smash it, unfortunately the above is largely bollocks.

The facts are that they are playing second from top at Werchter, and that they are playing on the 2nd stage at Southside and Hurricane. By any reasonable definition that means they're not headlining those festivals. They might be given nearly as prominent billing, they might be given a longer set than many other acts, but ultimately it means either that they're playing before dark (Werchter), or playing on a smaller stage (Southside/Hurricane).

Now, regardless of all that. Pictures Of You on the Pyramid is going to be seriously fucking special isn't it?

Correct!! I’ve genuinely never heard of any of the others.

I don’t really understand how The Cure were regarded in their heyday? Everyone I speak to seems to have the same sort of response “they were ok” or “they had a couple of good songs”, I’ve never met someone who said they really liked them, or who had all their albums, or who had been to see them live or anything.

In the eighties and early nineties they released a lot of really good songs.  Seriously, give some of those songs I listed a listen, they're good songs!

Does anyone think there is a realistic chance of it not being The Cure and The Killers? As depressing as that is.... I just can’t think of anyone else feasible, available and suitable

What happened to The Arctic Monkeys. There was talk of them months ago but now nothing. As far as I can find online they are in South America until April but nothing after that.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are back in the studio after SA shows to churn out another album next year, which leaves them set up to play 2020 (the supposed big one).

I agree. They'd make a perfect Other Stage headliner but I just can't see them headlining the Pyramid at this point. If they do then it just shows how hard Glasto are finding it to book really high calibre headliners these days.

This is the general consensus. A short tour for this album definitely infers that something is somewhat coming.

I reckon taking the summer off and coming back with a more commercial friendly album would do them good.

Also TBH&C is a weird one. I didn’t mind it at first, liked it a little while after the release but now I find it unlistenable. I think i’m in the boat now that it is just a bad album lol. Understandably ambitious but poorly executed.

Seen them loads and got most of the album's.  Give some a listen it really is quality stuff and has stood test of time.  But like everything it's all about opinions .I would sooner see the cure than either of other 2 headliners.

It wasn't in 1995 so don't bet your ticket money on it. They felt totally out of place back then and I speak as someone who saw them on The Prayer Tour in '89 and loved it. I'm not surprised Michael gave them the thumbs down afterwards.

How anyone can say they have two songs is laughable. The Cure have tune after tune and will smash it. Cannot wait for them.

I feel the same. It maybe not be the exciting band for many but they got a load of great songs to play all night

The problems is that unlike some bands (e.g. Radiohead), my taste in Cure songs is not the same as theirs. They seem to like the dirge like, guitar heavy songs.  Whereas I generally prefer their pop records, with special exceptions for A Forest and From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea.

Just to throw my hat in, I'm of the opinion that The Cure only have two songs- Friday I'm In Love and Boys Don't Cry (the latter of which I don't think I would know if it weren't for The Inbetweeners)

To a fan of a band, they can have so many hits. To an outsider, a band can have 2.
Personally, I really like The Killers. I'd reel off Mr Brightside, When You Were Young, Human, Spaceman, All These Things That I've Done, The Man, Runaways, Somebody Told Me, Smile Like You Mean It, Read My Mind, Bones, For Reasons Unknown.
The chances are, average Joe is going to say "I know 3 of them."

All a matter of perspective.

Very true. From that list it's Mr Brightside, Human and Somebody Told Me.

AM have toured TBHC in the UK, U.S, Europe - headlined festivals across the UK and Europe, albeit only 1 festival (I think) in the UK. Took a mini break from October/November to late February. Then went to play some dates in Australia and now South America, which apparently is the end of the 'Tranquility era'... *braces for yay TBHC is shite comments*

They are keen to get back to the studio. My opinion is they'll drop a few stand alone singles early next year and headline 2020. It's a case of when, not if, they headline Glastonbury again

I always assumed Boys Don't Cry was one of those songs absoutely everyone had heard a million times. It looks like I was wrong.

For those of you who don't know it, can you give this a quick listen and confirm you don't recognize it at all? It's not really much like their later stuff.

If the Cure do a genuine greatest hits set then they’ll be amazing. If they are going to do their usual mix of well and lesser known songs then personally I’ll pass and I think many may leave... though others will love it. Probably Not unlike Radiohead in 2017, I just happen to be a Radiohead fan and someone who doesn’t mind The Cure.

I would say there’s more an issue that the Killers are headlining in 2019 than The Cure.

Not that there should be an issue.

Orbital, Janelle Monae, The Chemical Brothers, Lauryn Hill and The Wu-Tang-Clan are all headlining stages this year.

?️‍♂️

I’d say it’s more an issue they’ve just pretty much recycled the acts from 2017 and put them on the pyramid! How has no one in booking had this mentioned to them ??

They are headlining those festivals as they are one of the headline names. If you think that "headline" just means "plays last on the biggest stage" then Disclosure headlined above Paul McCartney at Rock Werchter. The Hurricane/Southside thing is because them and Foos both need a day in between shows and it's the only way, but they're still both headline names. Even in the UK they've coheadlined festivals but were still and will now always be a headliner.
