2 things:

Umbrellas are c**ts. Mankind can evolve enough to invent a device you can hold in your hand that gives you access to everything and anything in the world, but not enough to design something better to shield from the rain that (a) is rendered useless when it happens to be windy - usually accompanies wet conditions and (b) endangers other people's eyes when used.

And are we on best TV shows again? I thought we'd solved that?

The ground isn't the issue.

I'd much rather a muddy ground and no rain from above than an ok ish ground that you still can't sit down on and getting pissed on from the heavens. 

Walking boots + shorts + tshirt= ok

Walking boots + shorts + poncho = not ok
