Aretha Franklin all day. She's definitely still got it. The ultimate legend really for me.

Carole King going nuts in that video! She'd be great too.

Phil Collins would bring out the haters online, but he'd definitely draw a big crowd.

Kate Bush? Not my cup of tea but is undeniably of legend status.

Trying to think of a male soul legend who hasn't died yet... struggling...

Wow the whole crowd is losing their shit to that performance...Apart from George Lucas at 3:21, unenthusiastically clapping in the whitest way you've ever seen!

I reckon Muse are gonna be one of those bands that carries on forever, releasing terrible albums that literally nobody in the world gives a fuck about, like U2, AC/DC and Iron Maiden.

And you'll still be seeing them on every tour twenty years down the line.

I can usually profess endless love for Aretha. But need details regarding that coat first though.

RE: Billionaire toy salesman George Lucas, I saw a photo of Spielberg circa E.T. sans beard the other day. That was more whitey-embarrassing / terrifuckingfying than Lucas and his crapclapping.

What details? She absolutely loves wearing fur. Unapologetic about it too. Google "Aretha Franklin fur" and hit images. PETA have been at her for years and years. She owns dozens of fur coats. Real fur coats.

Elton John is the dream legend slot for me. Bang out a load of the old stuff like Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer, Yellow Brick Road ect and some of the stuff off the Lion King and you've got a killer set.

I honestly think he'd accept the slot if it was offered to him as well, I'm sure I saw an interview a few years back saying Glasto have never approached him about doing anything on the farm.

So what if some people think he's a c**t, plenty of c**ts have played over the years.

Has to be said, fur-wearing aside, Aretha Franklin is probably the last great (alive) performer yet to play Glastonbury Festival.  Unlikely band reformations aside, I can't think of a single heritage act left to play who hasn't either done it or died.

Tom Waits?

And Elton or Madonna even if they're not your cup of tea?

Oh yeah, I forgot those.  Are there any others, or is that it?

Don't shoot me, but I don't think Tom Waits is quite as massive as the Tom Waits think he is.  Very special for the fans, but not on the scale of Elton, Aretha or Madonna, I'd say.

Did you miss out the word fans or do you think Tom waits refers to himself as 'the Tom Waits?'

If the former I think you're wrong. I think the majority of his fans would know he isn't that massive and whereas sometimes you'd ask the question "which songs would the casual listener have heard of?" I think for Tom you could ask "have they even heard of him?"

Yes, they may know Downtown Train, Ol'55 or Jersey Girl but not because of Waits.

And he rarely tours. And never plays festivals.

Ooops I did, although I like the idea of Tom Waits pottering around his house declaring "The Tom Waits is going to make himself a cup of coffee"

So we're agreed then, he doesn't belong on the same list of massive acts who have never played along with Aretha, Madonna and Elton?  It would just be a treat for his fans, who do really love him and never get to see him at festivals, but nobody else would care?

Ol' 55 and Little Drop of Poison are on our playlist where I work and I always found that quite odd.

Then again my boss has a very eFests taste in music and it also has the likes of Nick Cave and Ryan Adams on it.

Tom Waits would be so good at Glasto but it wouldn't happen, would it?
