Crows nest and JP here again, made up for missing the Manchester show (which I wasn't that sad about coz the Oh Sees smashed it on every level, I really can't stress how much I enjoyed that gig). The Crows Nest one was nuts, I remember how much I enjoyed it (mucho) but I'm a bit fuzzy on the details. Anyone got a setlist to jog my memory? I remember bits of Head On/Pill and another one off In Your Mind Fuzz that wasn't the title track or Cellophane but the rest I just remember the chaos of the affair. Bit gutted they didn't play Vomit Coffin at either.

Crows Nest was basically a big long improv medley, starting with Head On/Pill and going through a bunch of other staple songs. Bit of Altered Beast in there for sure, Rattlesnake I think, Gamme Knife.

That adds up. Great laugh anyway, I blame the Jacksons for being so shit I had to get hammered for the fuzzy memory. Appropriate having fuzz in my mind though.

As they've got a catchy name and quite a few people I know said they were great, I decided to try them out.  To be honest, I thought they were a funk dance band.

Turns out they play EXACTLY the styleof music that I LOVED between the age of 15 and 20.

Brilliant choice.  Loved them.  More please.

In 20 years of attending gigs, that crows nest show was by far the most fun I've ever had at a gig. Sure I've seen far more polished live acts, more charismatic front men etc. etc. but that was something utterly special for me.

I Arrived 45 mins early to ensure I got in and wow. Everyone there was up for it, one of the kindest mosh pit I've ever been in, sharing drinks with people around me and it was fuckin' great to hear Head on / Pill live again.

A good 7 / 8 of my group who have had me banging on about them for a year or two decided to head up to see what the fuss was about (I had told them this would be their best set of the weekend)...... each and every one of them now own their back catalogue.

Quote of the year from a mate "My favourite moment of the fest was when you appeared out of the darkness after the Gizzard secret set; running toward us karate kicking the air, wearing only shorts, a ripped shirt and a tie screaming "Nonagon Infinity opens the door!!"

I still get goosebumps thinking about this gig, it was utterly stunning and will take some going for a band to top that.

Save a thought for those of us stuck outside begging the stewards to let us in :P Sounded amazing though, and the 5 minutes I got in for were spectacular

Worth heading backwards through this thread a bit of you get time, some great reccomendations from other current acts similar to this, its a great time for this kind of music.

album artwork for new album titled Sketches Of Brunswick East. Seems the rumors that they're releasing an album with Mild High Club are true. Supposedly it's gonna be quite jazzy so I'm expecting something similar to Quarters and Paper Mache Dream Balloon.

In an interview they said they're not gonna announce it, just release it unannounced so it could be coming sooner rather than later (especially if they still wanna release 5 this year)

Not sure if this will be of interest to any of you guys but The Murlocs (2/7ths of KGATLW in the form of Ambrose and Cook) are touring in September and its their first ever European tour. Check em out, plenty of harmonica!

Literally just bought a Manchester ticket, absolute steal at 8 quid.

Same mate, would be rude not to. Whats the Deaf Institute like as a venue?

It's great, seen some brilliant gigs there. Good size, decent beer and almost guaranteed to see the stage. Up there with the best in Manchester for me.

It's the best one in Manchester for me, edges it over the Apollo due to location.

Albert Hall for me, not by much though and definitely has its issues. The Ritz had a really strong period where they were getting all the right bands and great service but its depleted recently, too expensive to enjoy drinking there. Never seem to see bands at the Apollo anymore either, saw Pixies there a year ago but can't remember before that. Plenty of decent venues though, my heart sinks when bands get announced at the Academy.
