Worthy View Hill

My mother and her sister have booked WV this year for a bit of shower based comfort. Both middish 40's. They are not unfit as such, but I do wonder if the hill may be a bit of a challenge. Anyone who has done it, can you tell me how long it takes to get from say the stone circle to the level area where the tents are? I can sort of visualise the gradient, but I would be happier if I could tell her what it would take time wise: five minutes? Ten?

The stewards last year gave out bags of haribo etc to those going up the hill at night! It's fine if you only have to do it once or twice a day, and anyway after a few beers you forget about it really, just going up it sober in the middle of the day in heat is... Is not fun

We did it in 2011 when it was MyHab/Green Tent Co and we were both 48 then.  It's steep but reasonably short and we found that the grass slope to the left of the path going up was actually easier than the uneven rocky path itself.  Don't think anyone however young/fit would want to do it more than twice a day though.

its the starting the climb below Strummerville in addition to the actual hill once you get through the WV hill that makes it a slog. looks cool at night though with all the lights.  i did it 3 times in one day last year. not aimign to repeat that this year.  apparently there is going to be a bar soemwhere either at the top or bottom of the hill this year.

I think you're right about the bar at the bottom.. I'd forgotten about that!  The incline up to Strummerville is bad as it seems to take ages.. I try to zig zag across the hill!!  Strummerville was an absolute bonus though last year, it broke the journey back to the tent up.  The view from the top is amazing and well worth all of the effort to get there.. It has to be the best view of the festival.  Can't wait now!

It's not too bad IMHO - hardly notice it when you're drunk. The steepest bit is very short (200m??), has wide steps and a handrail, then it's just a gradual incline up the hill past the scout tents. If you're struggling, just take it slow and stop for breathers, no-one will mind. As our sherpas said on our Everest Base Camp trek 18 months ago "pistari, pistari" (slow, slow). However....it's not somewhere you will find easy to 'pop back' to during the day. But then, TBH, neither are most camping places on site!

I was last there in 2011 when it was meant to be the myhab camp site, the hill was straight up and steep!

noticed on the aerial shots there seems to be a zig zag path, is this something more recent and is it easier to climb?

cheers

How does the hill compare to the hill of death at Gate C?

I'm guessing by the distant view from campervan east fields (other side of the fest at the top of hill of death) that that hill makes the hill of death seem like a leisurely stroll over a mole hill. It maybe an illusion but it actually looks like a sheer cliff, almost Everest like!

It's just a hill, surely it's just a matter at going at your own pace ?

Yep, there are plenty of natural rest stops (even Pennard gate gives some respite( the steepest part (with steps and handrail) is probably best tackled in one go though, head down...
