But in terms of the current late night areas, I reckon the story starts in 2005 when Midnights Carnival was created as a new late night area in what's now called Bellas Field - it's often forgotten because basically the weather that year totally torpedoed most of what they were trying to do.

Just had a quick look up on Midnights Carnival, that sounded really cool. definitely up my street!

It might have just been me, but personally I always found Lost Vagueness a bit exclusive and cliquey, especially with all the black tie and ballgowns. I much prefer what's in that area these days.

Loved the old LV but yes the black tie thing made you feel there was some part of it that was exclusive and only those in the know were invited to.I remember going on the LV website when I got back one year to find out what this casino and sit down diner was all about and if memory serves you had to join by paying an annual fee of £30 to be eligible for the nutroast banquet so yeah very cliquey, thought it must be for the trustafarians and their friends

Sometimes I think it was....

Also, the £3 entry with costume into the Casino the first year was the first time I ever remember being charged for entry to anything on site.

The first years, '97 ish (before LV was a field) there was no charge. Pretty sure you couldn't hire costumes either but the dress code was still in force.

I wonder where the raw footage of 'Big Caravan' is now? It was an LV version of 'Big Brother' in a static caravan in 2003. Probably the most outrageous thing I know of at the festival...and that is saying something.

Hopefully for the sake of the participants the footage has been destroyed. It was going out live on C4 but they had to pull the plug on the live stream late one night.

Have heard many tales of lv and really wish id experienced it but it ended I think the year before I started going to the festival, think shang ri la definitely needs a refresh, the first year of heaven and hell was great, the angels letting you into heaven after confessing your sins, the snakepit right next door, last couple of years didnt seem to have any of that however dont know if I just missed it but I didn't come across any indoor heaven area like in 2013 and the snakepit definitely wasn't there

Vague memories of walking past Trash City every night on my way to PGC to go back to East CV fields. As I recall it was between where Leftfield was in those days (near the tower that is now known as the Tony Benn Tower) and PGC. Am I mis-remembering?

In 2000 there was certainly a costume room with outfits for hire at £3 a shot and no entry without them - even a 'bouncer' on the door was there to enforce this. We managed to get in anyway somehow - can't quite remember how - might have just slipped round the back or something like you could do in those days.

Worth saying that Shangri-La is in a different league altogether from Lost Vagueness in terms of the offering, so if you think that needs a refresh you'd probably be disappointed with what LV actually had. The current South East corner is the most impressive change from when I first went to the festival in 2004 and, in my opinion, it's what really sets the festival apart from its "competitors"

I saw Michael speak in 2004 and when he was asked what his favourite bit of the festival was he said Lost Vagueness but things obviously turned a bit sour. There's a nice moment in Julien Temple's Glastonbury with Michael bumping into Roy in LV; he seemed really pleased to see him.

Who ME or Roy? Roy could be easily upset so Michael knew how to approach him....

ME seemed really pleased to see him; said something like "You made it!"

Biggest understatement ever on efestivals?

I was camped in Dragon Field in 2007 and was walking through a not yet open LV to shortcut onto the Railway and witnessed a hilarious Roy blow up on the Wednesday or Thursday - I don't know if it was THE one people talk about and captured on film, but I don't remember seeing Michael Eavis anywhere around so probably not.

Unfortunately I can't remember much of the details anymore - I think I posted a bit about it at the time but that will have been lost at this stage. But I remember thinking how petty and petulant it all was, and it cumulated in him ordering people to dismantle all the things they were just finishing the build of. They all ignored him having presumably seen it all before.

There was an episode of Jon Ronson On on Radio 4 in 2007 (I think) that captured some of the things going wrong behind the scenes in Lost Vagueness at that time, including the spat with Trash City over the aeroplane parts. My band played a late night gig in the Casino that year and I remember being surprised that they could get away with (effectively) charging for entry.  I don't think it made for a great atmosphere either.  Lost Vagueness was great at the time, especially because before that you basically had the Rizla van for after hours entertainment, but it was nowhere near as good as what there is now.  Not in the same league.

Reading into the history of Glastonbury only makes me wish I had gone sooner, instead of wasting my money on all those little gigs in fields.

I'm in two minds as I was fairly sheltered growing up, it might have all been a bit much for me.  On the other hand it all sounds completely nuts and I'd now have loved to have experienced it.  No regrets though as I only moved to England late 2003, and I managed to make it in 2005.

I also remember in 2003 Lost Vagueness had it's own fairly sizeable stage (The Lost Stage) programmed along with the rest of the festival. Outdoor stage, big green standing area etc.

Edit - Meccadonalds also on that map.

I'd forgotten about the Lost Stage.  I saw Nightmares on Wax on that stage in 2003.

these LV memories are brilliant. We're collecting stories for the film so send them our way eleanorgomes@outlook.com or on Twitter @sofiaolinsfilms or FB http:///27DhuoL. And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do think about pledging. We've raised over £10,000 but still need another 6 to get this story out there. I think you'll all agree it's time the world remembered Lost Vagueness p.s. director has great footage of Roy and def got the argument to end it all on camera just waiting to be seen.
