forums upgrade

I've been ready to upgrade the forums for a few weeks, but haven't been able to because an upgraded plug-in I've needed hasn't been available. That plug-in still isn't available, but I might have found an alternative way to manage things.

 

I'm currently installing a test set-up on my test system (unfortunately it takes many hours to load in a copy of the forums data), and if that test works OK I'll be able to do the same thing on the live forums, and then be in a position to upgrade the live forums.

 

If everything goes well with the testing, I'm hoping to start the upgrade tonight.

 

The upgrade is a long process because of the size of the database, so it might possibly take several days to complete (it took the best part of a week on my low-powered test system) - tho I hope not.

 

I'll update this thread during the day as things become clearer.

What type of upgrade is it? is it the new IPB version or just a general forum type of update?

Unfortunately I've been unable to run the test on my current test set-up, so I'm currently building an alternative test set-up to do the testing on.

 

That means it's unlikely that I'll be in the position to go ahead with the live upgrade today, tho I'll keep at it with that in mind for the moment.

it's not happening tonight after all, as I haven't been able to do the testing I need to do.

 

Fingers crossed i'll be ready to go tomorrow.

While I still haven't done the testing, I've had confirmation that what I want t test will do what I need it to do.

 

Which means that the upgrade is definitely going to happen today. The only question is now is what time it'll start.

Dammit .... I went to do what I went to do, but discovered that I can't do it.

So I'm not sure what the score is now for the upgrade. I'll let you know as soon as I know.

After digging around, I see that I need to get some of the server software upgraded, so I'm on the case with that.

There'll be some server downtime sometime soon(ish), as the servers will need restarting after the software updates.

I am getting adverts etc despite being gold with amessage that says I need to validate - which I did ages ago.

 

Is that part of the upgrade?

Ummm ... it shouldn't be, tho I don't rule out the possibility.

Right ... I have carried out the bits and pieces that needed doing prior to the main upgrade ... which I'll be trying to do later on tonight.

The upgrade will be starting shortly, so the forums will be offline for a while.

 

Hopefully everything will go smoothly ... fingers crossed.

Neil, 'signatures ' all gone from the bottom of a users posts .... And can't find out how to re-add , has the feature been discarded with the upgrade. ?

I presume it is still a work in progress - forums all look OK but the rest is a mixture of old site and new site and even though logged in as gold member I get adverts

sigs were turned off,  tho I've now just turned them on.

What i can't find tho is where a user actually edits their sig. lol

from the forums menu, you need to choose 'account settings'.

On the main part of the site - forums all look fine.

Ouch no stylesheet or anything does a CTRL-f5 help that? I've got the ad gaps still in the homepage, but i host-block most (is why i is paid up innit)

you're seeing screwed formatting because your browser hasn't loaded the new formatting file.

Do Crtl-F5 to force a full refresh (it'll look much better for it :P).

That probably won't make the ads go away (I need to look into that), but please let me know if it does.
