But why?

Three headliners all touring the year before with no new material to showcase in 2016 is reductive. There's almost always a headliner who's releasing new material the year of the festival, and I just can't see Reading booking three bands who've already been on the trot on the festival market the year before.

But no 2014 headliner released new material in 2014. And I've said this before.

It's pure speculation but I think 2014 is relatively an anomaly.

They probably expected a new Blink album out by then, didn't Tom say all the way back December 2013 that new material was coming?

None of Blink 182, Arctic Monkeys, Queens of the Stone Age or Paramore released new material in 2014.

Has anybody mention jake bugg? Seriously I thing there are some good indie bands that can headline festivals now and are about to for the first time such as alt J, kaiser chiefs, vaccines, Florence and foals. Plus catfish and everything everything in bit more of the future. But apart from royal blood I can not thing of any future heavy rock bands to headliners, which is not the rock bands fault it is the music industry as a whole.

    • Aren't they against touring?
    • If my memory serves me right, it was the other way round - when PS 2022 lineup was released it was already confirmed that she plays Barcelona in May.
    • Cheers! And yep looks identical to Green day's scheduling
    • Reading all the feedback with interest.  If there are now 75,000 tickets officially sold, plus who knows how many more people blagging in - then on the Friday evening and Saturday in particular, it's not ridiculous to suggest there's 50,000 people at Mordor, which is a stadium gig - except with much worse sight lines, an inferior PA, and far less bars and toilets. The Thursday evening in 2022 was of course infamous but on the Friday night for Beck I was trapped about 150m from the stage, surrounded by chatters, and with no prospect of getting nearer the stage.  With hindsight that was when I realised the fest had one way or another fundamentally changed.  Also noting on Reddit that some folk didn't enjoy the Cure or Gorillaz because the sets were "too long".  In future bands may be better received if they actually just play their top 10 Spotify songs then get back off the stage.
    • Has Glastonbury already got council permission for that 5 year run?
