Leyrulion
Seems like a lot of set up for a couple of 30 second links between coverage. Maybe it is and they're just using up some of the money they've saved from not doing the usual huge operation.

Yes, if it was just a few links then they would have done it from up in the farm or build their little studio with the fake cows.
jparx
Yeah, this may end up being nothing at all but it certainly looks like a lot of activity for just links. And you'd want as few people involved as possible at the minute surely.
Deaf Nobby Burton
Also looks a big winabago type thing? Seems a bit OTT for a few links

tumbles
My guess is the BBC having a similar setup to what they normally have but in corner of the pyramid field. Live broadcasts coming from there with perhaps the odd acoustic set?

squirrelarmy
You’d be surprised how many people are needed for a small link. You also don’t have any nearby hotels allowed to be open and also nowhere to eat. Even if there’s only 4 people on camera in total you’ll need more operating cameras, sound lighting. Then you have hair and make up plus director and other staff. All these people need feeding and accommodation. The people serving the food also need somewhere to sleep. They have to be a completely self contained unit for the duration of the festival.

Deaf Nobby Burton
Are those ports cabins to the left hidden behind the bushes always there? Haven’t looked at the camera until this time last year.

Seems like a lot of unnecessary use of licence payer money just to film a few links, some of the lockdown TV being broadcast at the moment is seriously budget. BBC Music are going to have a certain budget for the year for content - makes sense to spend some on what is probably their biggest event of the year. I'm sure it's a tiny percentage of how much it'd normally cost doing the proper event coverage.

A lot of that money will have already been spent. The outside broadcast units will have been booked, sub contractors will already been paid. The alternative would be finding studio space which would actually put more people at risk. Why not use the staff and equipment that otherwise would be gathering dust in a BBC warehouse. Pinhead
Good PR and a good jolly for them tho. Saved a load of money on Wimbledon too I reckon.
Crazyfool01
haven't we also had articles about 500 bbc staff at Glastonbury wasting our licence fee before ... this won't be anything close to that ..

If you worked for the bbc wouldn’t you be desperate to get on the crew for a normal Glastonbury ? You can imagine the scramble for places on that team😁. Neville Street
A fraction of the cost of a proper BBC Glasto and it will be high viewer numbers this year, as it is every year.
Tommy101
I guess they will be thinking that the viewing figures will be higher this year than a normal one as there are 250,000 extra people who are normally on site wondering what to do with themselves? It will probably be the most viewed tv this weekend. At least it’s original programming that’s not presenters introducing old repeats. Even though technically it’s what will be happening 😂

Perhaps I need to check my hypocrisy there!
