The quickest method is using the 'VisualPing' extension in Chrome. It checks every second as long as the tab is open on that URL. Alerts you within 1 second of the page change.

I'm using one called Page Monitor which is also very good, checks every 5 seconds and you do not need to have the tab open  makes a scary cuckoo sound and has a desktop notification too

Yeah, if you are relying on SMS you will be behind everyone using VisualPing and PageMonitor by a good 10 to 20 seconds I would think.

sms is great for when youre on the move. I'd say Neil's is sure worth the fiver for that reassurance

This is true but those tools are not without their limitations, will drain your battery and give off a lot of false positives.

do you have to be on the tab as well for visualping or can it just be open but not actually on if that makes sense?

Nice - added to me Chrome - I'm like a bloody one man band here - whatsapp notifications, SMS, Email, Visual Ping, Siblins notification, and now page monitor! I dread to think how loud it will be here when they finally do go on sale!!!

You can just have chrome open (i have it on a tab as well but don;t think you have to). it then pops up on the bottom right with an alert when there is a change, like a new email would flash up.

I can't understand your bosses logic here, if i was calling a meeting I would send anybody who was in your situation straight out to buy their tickets. Only takes a few minutes to do and you'd end up with one happy member of staff afterwards who's a damn site more likely to work well for you!
