Well the BBC weather page was saying yesterday it was going to be heavy showers through the night for Isle of Wight this evening, this morning it's just saying a few periods of light rain. So they can't even get it right 24 hours out.

Here's hoping the forecast biblical flood doesn't hit the site tonight then...

Rain Friday, Saturday, Sunday now. A couple of thunderstorms.

Seems to be pretty consistent with every forecast for the last week or so. Looks like were in for a lot of rain.

were you left alone a lot as a child? You have such a remarkable imagination.

Most posters here dismiss rainy forecasts as "its too early to tell" and celebrate sunny forecasts

For Nal its the opposite

I quite like the approach. Expect the worst and you'll never be disappointed - either you're wrong and we get great weather, or you're right and you won't have been let down. It's a bit like how I kept betting against England at the last World Cup - you feel slightly dirty for doing it, but you can be satisfied with either outcome.

Any forecasts regarding rain aren't accurate outside 72 hours, 5 days regarding temperature. So even the rainfall forecasts on the Tuesday of the festival aren't accurate for the weekend.

In short, this thread is a total waste of time.

We've all known this for years, but we still keep coming back!

I'm interested to see how IoW gets affected this weekend, my son's there and last time there was heavy weather the festival didn't cope too well. I expect that any rain coming once the majority are onsite should limit any problems.

Nal's glass is always half-empty!

Half full of rainwater, I reckon.

The fact that even the negative forecasts are pushing any breakdown in high pressure to the weekend itself, rather than from the start of the festival/slightly before (which was forecast previously) is encouraging, hopefully it can be pushed a little bit further past the weekend itself!

6.4mm is the average the websites are forecasting today:

How many sites/forecasters are you using at this stage Pedmills? It's just that that top one is soooo much higher than the others, that it might be affecting the mean quite a lot? Can we expect the jagged changes in the lines to smooth out a bit more as time goes on?

Before anyone says it, I feel like an idiot for asking such stupid questions to such seasoned forecast watchers!

Been at the IOW fest twice during biblical rain and due to the inevitable "pinch points" as thousands head from camping towards the stages (through Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields) between narrow walkways, it can get treacherous.

Hi All,

Long time lurker, first (well, 2nd) time poster.

The above charts have inspired me to join. My day job is being an Analyst so I know good analysis when I see and this is a thing of beauty. Gotta love a trend line especially. (I am fully aware of the "sad" nature of that admission).

Pedmills - keep up the good work sir. Bravo.

Marvellous second post. I am still filled with confidence that we're in for a good un!

2012 was particularly horrendous. That whole site is one big bottleneck.
