In previous years the Thursday night at the WOW stage has been absolute carnage, so I will probably avoid that part of the site this year, will head to Fitzgerald and then go to SEC and try to see Randomer and Denzel Curry, or might just end up at the Greenpeace stage for Simian Mobile Disco followed by Jamz Supernova - my plan is to take it fairly easy on Thursday night this year, in stark contrast to previous years.

Same, I have had moments of extreme claustrophobia at WOW on a Thursday. Don't think I would go near it now. I'm all over that Greenpeace Thursday. A lovely way to ease in and, as I'll be there with my son too, I know he'll be comfy and welcome raving on the edges there until about midnight. (He's 11). Let us know how your plans for Take It Easy Thursday work out...

Have a decision to make re: Jon Hopkins.

Would obviously be a great buzz to see him on WH, but he's at another festival we're heading to in August. Could be tempted by Hype B2B Randall into late Arcadia, or an early shift across in SE.

Jon Hopkins should be a pretty fantastic set on West Holts, given the sound system. The crowd should be well up for it, so if it's anything like Hot Chip or James Blake it should be terrific. AND, it's live, so a nice variation compared to all the DJ stuff we'll be seeing at night etc.

Also, he finishes 5 minutes before Pyramid and Other, giving that vital window for a sprint to Arcadia for a decent spot when Coxy comes on...

Just my tuppence.

I hadn't clocked that! Fantastic news.

Still may end up heading over to Four Tet in Wow later that night since I've never had the chance to catch him. Become obsessed with his Live at Funkhaus Berlin recording (although I realise this won't be the same). Bit worried about horror stories from Wow though.

Also slightly frustrated that the one night I'm seeing a headliner on WH there's nothing I want to get straight down to in SEC.

Oh, it’s fantastic, and so is she. Spoiled only by the scores of people who seem determined to live their lives via the portal of a 5” screen.

Playing it now. That 4.30am Temple slot is calling me more and more strongly. Love it. Can't be doing with the visuals though. Too much pissing about posing and chatting in the crowd. Sometimes filming sets gets right in the way if it's not done thoughtfully. Personally, I think the security guard looks more into it than most - even though he is standing still, he's got a secret grin on him, like he is dancing his hardest in his head, soaking it all in. Please see drop just after 10:00 for an example. Those phones though - I mean it's actually being filmed for crying out loud!

He should go to something he will like. I can't bear it when the people I'm with aren't into it. I just go deeper into the crowd and leave them to it. I've got that Hype B2B Randall set marked, though who knows if I will make it there. I'm with you, can't bear the plinky, plink D&B. I like the chest-rattling, eyeball-popping stuff

I love Calibre/LSB/Seba quality liquid D&B - But I think those tunes come to life when they emerge from a sustained spell of dirty tunes. Brief, beatiful ecstatic moments that are special because you smashed through the rotten tunes Ha.  Whole sets of it leave me cold.

I really don't want to sound all grumpy old man about it but surely the true ecstasy (ahem) is immersing oneself in the multiple senses experience, especially when sharing that with either existing, or just-newly-made dancefloor friends? Standing there, barely dancing so that you don't get wobble on your pointless, dreadful-sounding phone recording...WHAT?!

I won't be a hypocrite and will confess to, occasionally, taking a 20sec video at stupid o'clock, as I send one to Child 2 sometimes when I'm having a particularly great night out. But that's purely just a silly, and very brief, little thing that we do and it's a one off, if at all.

Just enjoy the experience with your own memory, guys, not your phone memory.

Definitely going to try and see Laurence Guy.

Heads up to anyone heading to Mall Grab, he’s totally changed his style in the past 6 months and plays heavy techno and breaks - very different to his productions and boiler rooms. Went to see him at Printworks in March as part of the AVA line up and ended up leaving 40 minutes early as it wasn’t for me.

Yeah Mall Grabs style has moved on to what’s currently en vogue but he doesn’t do it very well in my opinion I saw him while waiting for another act the weekend thought he was shite. Keep him in bookings though so power to the lad.

Yeah, I was unfortunate enough to buy tickets for Mall Grab last year to find out for myself how heavy on the techno he's gone compared to his online mixes and his releases. Spent most of my night with Loods in Room 2 instead. Feel like most who went there that night had very similar expectations to me as the event was sold out but the Main room never reached full capacity as I had seen it on other nights. At best I saw it half full.

I do feel he might be considering breaking himself into two personas, Mall Grab & Jordon Alexander judging by his latest releases under his own name (which you should check out if you like old Mall Grab), which to me honestly sound a lot like old Mall Grab with that Low-Fi House sound. Though have yet to see announce any show under his Jordon name.

Obviously all speculation from me, but it's the impression I get from what I've seen come out of him.

I think I prefer Mall Grabs new sound tbh, although that's because I didn't really like his older stuff and had always had him pegged as a bit House-lite - his new stuff is clearly very 'focus group Techno' but don't find it 'too' bad.

Anyone doing any pre-Glastonbury tune ups? I just got tickets to the Krankbrother Street Party on the Saturday before Glastonbury, DJ Bone, Daniel Avery, Helena Hauff and Dr Rubenstein - should be a good one, finishes at 10.30pm so I can be home and in front of the TV by 11pm.

Listening to Shanti Celeste and Chris Farrell doing a jungle and hardcore set on NTS right now is getting me in the mood for a pure hit or two of uncut old school junglism.

I am absolutely determined to find a couple of sets like this over the week.

Same, I think this very specific type of jungle they're playing at the moment is my absolute favourite kind of dance music, just pitched so perfectly between that psychedelic liquid sound and some pure rave nuttiness

Must look out for the on-demand of this show, sounds great! So much quality programming on NTS. Andy Weatherall's 'Music's Not For Everyone' is a staple in our house.

What’s people’s experience of the Wow tent like? Can’t recall ever seeing anyone there!

Really want to see Four Tet at some point over the weekend and the Friday night slot is my only option really. Is it going to be absolutely rammo? Is the soundsystem any good?

Wow can be super impenetrable due to there only being a couple of entry points. But as with most crowds, once you get to the front, it's totally fine. Actually the last couple of times I've been in there the crowd has been good - Hessle Audio in '17 in particular, once you broke the fortress of statues lining the edge. Sound was totally fine, similar to what you'd get in Stonebridge or the BH, but not a patch on e.g. The Glade or (new)Genosys.

Seems to be the default place lots of people gravitate towards if they don't have a plan, probably because it's pretty central and pretty big -- that or the stairs outside the Beat Hotel, for whatever weird reason that seems to appeal to people.

Wish I was going that. Class line up! Big fan of DJ Bone when I saw him.

End of her Essential Mix she plays Jungle it’s class. Expecting a lot of breaks, Jungle and hardcore at Glastonbury which is absolutely fine with me. Expecting to hear this tune a lot too.

Shall we get a thread going of tunes we’re expecting to hear a lot this festival?

I heard this hardcore remix of this tune the weekend expecting an airing of that too. Anthem.

I think we all do a quick 20 seconds or so now and again, for me that’s about as long as I can go before I think F this, put the camera away and get ma bounce on again.

I've never seen DJ Bone, but The Vibe is an unbelievable tune

Freakenstein, who is closing out IICON made the RA Top 5 from Gottwood, and I learned it was Tristan da Cunha

Festivals can sometimes feel like a war of attrition and a day of non-stop rain on Friday made life difficult. Some cowered in their tents or ducked for cover while the hardcore majority stuck it out under the downpour. A few hours of vintage electro closing the Curve stage—first from Radioactive Man and then from Freakenstein—was a just reward for braving the elements. Freakenstein, an obscure alias of the larger-than-life UK veteran Tristan da Cunha, was one of the most surprising sets of the weekend. His take on electro verged on the lurid. Miami bass, ghetto house and raunchy electro, such as Aaron Carl's "21 Positions," made up a set of politically incorrect bangers. Da Cunha's enthusiasm was palpable as he head-bopped to the pacy music. The set finished with what sounded like sampled squeals from a porn film. Behind me, a doof stick, covered in fairy lights and topped with a dilapidated cuddly toy, rose above the crowd in appreciation.
