First time at Homobloc, any recomendations?

So much on that lineup that's fun. I really enjoyed Shygirl at Field Day, definitely worth checking out. Lynks is always great value, bundles of energy. Throw in Hercules & Love Affair, Mix-stress, HAAI, Job Jobse and you've got yourself a smasher. Not forgetting Nicky Siano. Not sure what his skills are like these days, but it's Nicky f**king Siano!

Read some awful reviews of Sat from bonafide fans... Sad way for 4T to end a triumphant year really.

(But makes me all the more smug about WHP)

Yeah the music was sh*t, far too much bassline across a load of acts, a real fall from grace for 4T too as you say

I agree, was disappointing. Still had fun but what were they thinking with Andy C, and the Caribou B2B was just dull.

Lynks 1st act I saw post pandemic, opening a festival stage. Willing to go early to see them again 😄

It was clearly going to be bassy - the whole day was literally billed as a celebration of UK bass music. The support acts made it very clear that it was going to be like that.

Andy C was silly - but did like the Caribou Champion b2b

Not all bassy music = bassline

WHP struggling to shift tickets this year looks like... Bicep is surprising although they debuted Chroma at WHP last year so maybe the repeat isn't selling it to people.

Has anyone met anyone who’s been to a chroma set and thought it was genuinely brilliant? I know loads that were like “it was alright”

im not convinced the faster tempo they play suits their own tunes and im not convinced they know how to craft a set of other stuff.

As producers I think they are amazing and love live Bicep shows also.

But not convinced with Chroma sets.

Happy to be proved wrong

I like the Chroma stuff to listen to on Spotify - is a better show than them live - absolutely not -   Everyone I know who has seen Chroma live seems to be on the we will wait till they do the normal live show again next time to see them -    That being said the rest of the BICEP WHP line up is great so still surprised it has not sold out

Sums up my feelings entirely. Saw Chroma debut, it was good, but Moderat massively overshadowed them that night. Wouldn't pay to see it again, however as you say that lineup is juicy. Sadly have other party plans though - December is a bad time.

Anyone going to Bugged Out at Drumsheds tomorrow?

Booked our travel ages ago with a view to picking up cheap tickets beforehand. Twickets has been slow but Ticketswap was almost non-existent until a couple of hours ago when over a hundred suddenly appeared?!? They're currently around £20 each but will probably wait until the morning to see what the state of play is by then. Saw a few going for £8 at their previous event with Hot Chip and Orbital so hopefully we'll get a bargain!

Long time lurker/first time poster here.

I have 2 spare tickets to Bugged Out at Drumsheds due to last minute flakey mates. (I'm going along with a few others)

Free to any board members that want them!

Just DM me on here I guess and I can email/WhatsApp the tickets.

Homobloc WHP review...

Security less strict on the way in, I suspect they're a bit intimidated by a lot of people wearing leather. In any case my chewing gum was strategically hidden so at least I had that this time.

Got in in time for I. Jordan who lured us into a false sense of security with an ambient start before going standardly heavy. Great intro to the night but weird decision to put them on at 6.45pm.

Next was over to Concourse for Hercules & Love Affair who played a very solid set and dropped some 2008 bangers. I increasingly prefer Concourse over Depot for the atmosphere and it was definitely the better of the vibes last night.

Things get a bit blurry after that and I dunno what we did for the next hour until Rahim Redcar. I was not expecting much from Rahim, not a massive fan, but probably my act of the night. Hadn't really clocked them as dance music but actually it worked well.

Popped into Archive for a bit of LSDXOXO and was nice to enjoy a bit of techno before going back to Depot for Shygirl/Club Shy. Second time I've seen em this year (first was at glasto with gfa) and they just don't do it for me, I don't get the hype. Dare I say I just find it all a bit predictable?

Was really looking forward to 2manydjs b2b ConMan, thought it an unusual pairing but potentially very fun. It didn't work. Really disjointed and you could tell which tracks were who based on what was happening. So left the group with one pal and went to HAAi instead who was playing a softer set than I've seen her play before but very strong queer vibe. She looked like she was loving life which was beautiful to see.

Finished the night with Horsemeat Disco, old faithfuls, nothing groundbreaking... Like comfort food for clubbers.

Really enjoyed the atmosphere, friendly crowd who danced a lot despite being the most men I've ever seen at a gig. Never been called babe so much in my life.

Queens and dancers were incredible - particularly liked the pole dancer in the cage at the back which people were politely spectating like it was a cricketmatch.

Sound was good, bass was way clearer than the other week in both Concourse and Depot.

However, not sure if it's due to having more spaces open (rooftop + Star & Garter as well as the main space) or just the fact it hadn't sold out, but it mostly felt half empty and quite cold at times. (I suspect it was the latter because Repercussion last year had multiple spaces open and was sold out, that was packed absolutely everywhere.) Mayfield is a big space and when it's not full it does feel a little soulless. The changeovers of acts in Depot didn't help either, with a gap between them so you got the artists all building up to their big finale then completely losing that energy. Spoiled it a bit for me.

Toilets were unspeakable.

With that said, was nice to be out with good pals doing the extracurriculars again and overall a fun night. It just about gets to a 7/10 for me.

they are massively overexposed, literally play an obscene number of large shows each year

Drumsheds last night. My word.

Full report to follow, but that was one of the best nights I’ve ever had.

Good to hear you had a cracker.

Simian were excellent

Not the best chems DJ set i've seen. They spent the first 75 minutes teasing hey boy hey girl with snippets (like literally 5-10+ times), just got annoying eventually. The charli xcx girl so confusing / hey boy hey girl mashup thing looked good on video but just didn't work imo.

Once they got that out the way though it was great - just took far too long to get going. Crowd was decent enough, few talkers - i told two to be quiet and they were very nice about it, actually said they saw chems 20 years back at bugged out and stuff (had to refrain from being a hypocrite and starting talking to them, but they seemed like nice chaps!)

Really enjoyed homobloc, concourse best atmosphere,  didn't queue that long for anything, end of erol alkan into haii was good vibes. I liked having space to dance but yeh emptied quickly after 2ish, atmosphere died a bit. Dogs did spot multiple people for additional searches when I went early.

Really nice gesture - hope someone was able to use them. Only just seen your post as I'd have taken them but we managed to get some off Ticketswap for a tenner anyway.

Third time at Drumsheds and was another really good day. Got in at 2 and just about managed to get past the over-zealous dog handler (he made a point of bringing it over to me to have a sniff). Was a good, slightly older crowd present and the atmosphere was friendly throughout. Moved around the rooms for the first couple of hours until Braxe and Falcon came on. Had only intended to watch the first half but it was so much fun that we stayed for the whole hour. Forgot my earplugs and found the sound in Y to be bit of an issue at times. We were right at the front and there was an delay during B&F as the sound was ricocheting off the fixtures or something. It got better towards the end but was then quite muddy during Octave One. Might be to do with having live acts and their set ups but did seem quite inconsistent during the day.

Caught the last hour of 2manydjs and Erol Alkan and they were great. No surprise the styles complemented each other perfectly and was a nice touch from Erol to finish with the Soulwax remix of Justice 'Phantom Pt II'. Went into Z a couple of times during the day (was my sons favourite room) but there was a massive queue for Busy P so we went between Modeselektor and a bit of Slam before the Chems. Thought it was a decent set that got better as it went on. Tom seemed to be doing most of the leg work with Ed as the hype man! Agree with the comment about them dropping snippets of their tunes - the drums from 'Star guitar' featured a couple of times but they then played it just before the end.

Found everything easy to navigate and all our travel went smoothly so was a successful day! Read a Mixmag article with one of the Bugged Out founders and he said they're working with Drumsheds on a Spring show. Think they will have to bring in a big live act (Underworld?) as the size of the place means you have to stack the line up to get enough people in. For their brand, the Chems are probably the biggest DJs they could book so that only really leaves live acts to draw a crowd in. This didn't sell out and neither did the first one last year so it's a tough venue to crack.

    • Hush cancelled with a similar event now taking place at EartH and Cate Le Bon doing her own show, maybe others have rearranged gigs?
    • Yeah I find it strange, if they were just a silly act then they wouldn't be headlining the 3rd stage. The likes of vengaboys yes but they aren't doing their own sizeable arena dates.  That looks very weak for what they could actually get, but GC aren't playing 3rd main stage with The 02 and the Coop arena and in a same slot that KSE are. MIW aren't carrying those two dates either, neither are Turnstile and Parkway Drive tickets didn't play out. You gotta do better than Ghost, Blink and Deftones though.    I think you are a bit even if that is not the intention. I'm genuinely shocked they booked them for the avalanche and I think it'll be rammed out of the tent. While ADTR will obviously get a lot too, many Download attendees will had the chance to see them at Slam Dunk. I think 90s fest getting Scooter was class and while there would have been some Download crossover, the Slam Dunk crossover given acts you get on the avalanche will be a different level.
