@vEN._.

Without rekindling the fire, the likes of you and I are, sadly, not especially well catered for at this year's festival.

Given what you've said, the artists that you will (I will) probably like most are:

Blawan

Partok

Shed

Steffi (of Steffi & Virginia)

Those are the closest to the type of techno we like the most.

The Hessle Audio boys are amazingly versatile, but can throw down some proper techno.

Paranoid London are one to look to as well - I have a feeling their Meat Rack set could be epic.

Hey guys  - long time lurker, first time poster

Some ace recommendations i've been picking up on here!

My tastes for the late night stuff are in the Four Tet/Ben UFO/Bicep/Ame kind of realm which seems fairly well catered for but am looking for some more electronic themed stuff for earlier in the days before things really kick off

I'm thinking stuff like Forest Swords (will be catching them sunday), Moderat (likewise), Rival Consoles, Kiasmos, Throwing Snow, Max Cooper etc.  or even more poppy stuff with some electronic influence (Sylvan Esso, Georgia (friday park stage..), Tei Shi, Howling or stuff like that).

Any suggestions appreciated!

I was very ready to give you lots of answers based upon your tastes being very similar to mine, but then realised day time viewing is pretty sparse in that department as far as I can tell... I'm going to count daytime as pre 19:00. I reckon maybe try Naduve, Shame On Us, Ross From Friends, Art's House... of course I'd love if Kiasmos and co were there but sadly naaaaae.

Perhaps someone else can enlighten us to some good day time listening.

P.s Bought tickets to Kiasmos/Dawn of Midi - 10 years of erased tapes - show this morning. SUPER KEEN.

Can any of you guys give me any pointers please. I'm really looking forward to seeing Blawan, I like him and his stuff, he's a good mate of Surgeon who I went to see on Saturday night in Liverpool (my 1st techno night out in about 18 months!!) Thing is, I don't recognise anybody elses name on the list, I do love my techno but I'm sadly getting old now (39) and my "peak" clubbing days were 95-00 Voodoo in Liverpool, amazing club, seen the likes of Surgeon, Dave Clark, Claude Young, Jeff Mills, Plastic-man, The Advent etc etc. I suppose the question I'm asking is, is will it be "proper" techno like I was used to? I'm guessing that with Blawan being on then it will be but having not heard of any of the others I'm just a bit unsure. I'll only be allowed into the SE corner on one night (Friday) as my missus will not put up with such "noise"

Thanks in advance for any advice/reassurance...

The R&S Records daytime party from 13:00 in Wow would be similar to those, lots of glitchy electronica probably.

for poppy electronic stuff, Mura Masa next door in Sonic at 16:00. Glass Animals on the Other Stage Friday afternoon wouldn't be a million miles away either, a bit more "indie" perhaps.

I'm by no means the best that follows this thread to give you recommendations, but you sound like you know and like similarish acts to me. The main acts I'm looking at getting to is Hunee, Kolsch, Earl Jeffers, the Bicep night at Stonebridge, Masters at Work and either Mylo or A Guy Called Gerald. I'd love to see Dan Shake as well but without the ability of night enhancers anymore I'm not sure my stamina will last until his 4:30am set.

With you mentioning Ben UFO then I would assume that the Hessle Audio set on Wow! Friday would be for you as well - but I don't know much on it so again best to get other more informed opinions than mine (which I'm sure will come)

Thanks Mjsell, will definitely give those a listen and yes I was possibly going to check out the Hessel Audio set.

Is Shame one Us a project spoofing Tale of Us?

Apologies for asking what has probably been asked before but... I'm very much on the peripheral of dance music. Planning on Justice, Joe Goddard and Boys Noize this year, have loved the Chems, LCD, 2ManyDjs, Hot Chip/2 Bears, Greg Wilson etc and often random stuff at the glade/NYC Downlow.

Always find the number of DJs a bit overwhelming and rarely find live dance stuff. Any recommendations based on the above? Ta muchly

I'd put Leon Vynehall up near the top of your list for this year

Evening, Mr Soul

Well...

1. You're not getting old. I'm significantly older than you and am going hard Thurs-Sun, so man up and come with me!

2. Blawan sits perfectly with Surgeon, Pariah and Regis at the helm of proper underground British techno and he will therefore likely be your set of the weekend. He's certainly my No.1 must see set of the entire festival, day or night, and on my beloved Genosys will be amazing.

Without being too presumptuous, if you're really only doing one go hard night, then I'd recommend Friday.

I've just received a tweet back from Popof, with him confirming to me that he's gonna play some proper techno for the techno heads.

On that basis, my Friday night is looking like:

Radiohead (tactically positioned on the left side of the field, at least towards the end)
Leave Radiohead at about 2330h to hoof it to the Temple for Popof at 0030h - 45 minutes of him
Then Genosys for 0130h for Blawan
Genosys 0300h for Shed
Then at 0430h head over to Jagz's Acid Lounge for an hour and a half of glitchy techy electronica from Radioactive Man

Feel free to copy that!

Will your good lady not authorise Jon Hopkins on the Spider on Saturday 2230-2355h?!

:)

Ben, or other Steffi/Virginia fans, got any standout mixes you'd recommend of both/either of theirs for a little tastemaker?

Bit 'obvious', but I like Steffi's Boiler Room. Some of the vocal samples in I could do without, but when she gets it right she smashes it:

Hi Ben.

Thank you for your kind and detailed reply, much appreciated.

I've been reading these boards and for a few weeks now and I've read a lot of what you've wrote in this thread (You know that thing where you form an opinion of someone or something without having known it or them? Well Ben, I had you down as being a young pup, ha ha ha, albeit a very knowledgeable one, just goes to show how wrong you can be eh....!!) Well, I'm glad you're more senior than myself and still enjoying your techno:D. Love Regis, especially his early stuff. I'll most probably just be heading into the naughty corner on the Friday night but who knows eh! Your plan does indeed sound like a good one, I'll deffo be there for Radiohead as they are my favourite band and to the left hand of the Pyramid is my preferred spec anyway, I will then probably be following your plan of attack form midnight till dawn. I've heard a mix or 2 by Popof but never seen him live so I'll deffo bimble on over for him before heading to Genosys for Blawan and Shed.

Thanks again for the additional info mate. Might just see you there.....!!

Oh, I'll probably be going to the 3hr sound check that they'll be doing at Genosys on the Thursday too, just as a little taster:D

Oh, and just to say that even though I'd decided to miss him for Radiohead, I had a tweet reply from Shaded to say that it's a mistake, and it's not him playing in Unfairground on Friday night.

Gawd only knows which Shaded it is...

A second L U C Y episode, if you will...

Gah!

Awesome! That's exactly what i am looking for.

You guys got me hyped again for glasto's nightlife, after i was kinda expecting having to deal with breakbeats all over the place.

    • When does the Thursday lineup get announced? I see they had Moonchild Sanelly and Young Knives last year, would be cool to get something along those lines again.
