gigs
Hey y'all as the time for tents, trolleys and toilet paper draws ever nearer, just a fun straw poll for your best ever headliner at EOTR.. I havent attended all of the festivals, but for me its Sigur Ros. One of the most amazing things i have ever seen and heard. Over to you... zahidf
Sigur Ros is seconded. All the headliners last year were ace though
shoebox
Got to be Grandaddy for me, mostly because they were such an unexpected announcement when it was made and they didn't disappoint. Joanna Newsome's set was particularly special as well.
paulwa
I know I'm not answering the question correctly, but I've always been more impressed with the middle order bands than the headliners at EOTR. Same this year to be honest. But what a middle order! Even bands that I don't listen to that much have managed to stun me playing live at EOTR - Fleet Foxes and Alabama Shakes being the best two examples of walking away from the gig thinking "f**k me, that was something special". Veronica Falls made me feel like a teenager watching The Primitives again (can't be bad). For me, that's the beauty of EOTR - every year there's a great surprise, or someone you wouldn't normally even rate, but who's live musicianship you can really appreciate. Maoster
Super Furry Animals and Wilco for me Me too! Also an honourable mention to Mercury Rev - their cover of Once In A Lifetime was awesome.
Yokel Again
Probably Mercury Rev for me too. Very enjoyable that. There have been most years where I've enjoyed one down from the headliner most. Best set ever though was Bon Iver on the Garden in 2008 (?). Really special and could see he was clearly gonna be big! paulwa
Mercury Rev was memorable from the point of view of being ear splittingly loud and using blinding white lights - a real assault on the senses by EOTR standards. Although I was very... very... drunk.
5co77ie
Modest Mouse, Yo La Tengo, and Wilco
Fareham Grecian
Fleet Foxes were pretty amazing. And David Byrne & St Vincent last year were so much better than I expected, incredible stuff. I thought Sigur Ros were dull. *runs and hides*

Born in the fifties
I thought Sigur Ros were dull. Me too. Got bored and left after 20 minutes.
riverlodge
second the shout for Wilco, but also really loved when Caribou did that Big Top set.
shoebox
That Caribou set was immense, as was the New Pornographers one. Were they the same year?
MattL80
Off the top of my head, probably Wilco. My memory of headliners is somewhat hazy, if someone could remind me of all the headliners from 2009-2012 inclusive I might change my mind ;-) largely agree with the comments about middle order being of more interest than the headliners. And the late night tipi sets.

paulwa
Surely The Flaming Lips just won this accolade hands down? Absolutely mind-blowing.

Tmeister
Have to say Fleet Foxes kinda did it for me being the best one headliners haven't been as good since but thats my pref.
paulwa
The question now is, who should headline the 10th anniversary festival in 2015? Go ambitious or bring back some old favourites? For me, some ambitious options, though bands who I could see fit in with the EOTR vibe without getting too mainstream, would include PJ Harvey, Beck, Surfjan Stevens (three who have been long wished for by many), and also The National, My Morning Jacket, Interpol, The Shins, Tame Impala. What do you reckon?
shoebox
Nick Cave HAS to be one of the big choices. I'm stunned he hasn't played yet. Yes, the much sought after Sufjan would be a MASSIVE coup. Did anyone see Simon Taffe around the site at the weekend? He was with a guy who looked EXACTLY like Will Oldham. So much so, that I convinced myself that it was him. I know Simon tries to get him every year (courtesy of a very brief exchange of comments on Instagram), maybe it was the man himself and Simon was selling the festival to him. I'd take Oldham in a heartbeat.
SweepingTheNation
Sufjan doesn't play festivals, apparently. I was going to start a 'hopes/predictions for 2015' thread (doesn't mean that someone else can't, of course) PJ probably will next time she has an album out, she's done the Bestival bit and EOTR is a bit closer to her roots. I do reckon Ryan Adams will headline next year to provide synchronicity with the first EOTR, and of course he's still big enough that he could. Yokel Again
Would love to see Ryan Adams again, assuming he's got his s**t together as when i've seen him before it's been, er, different! PJ Harvey would be great too. I think the National are probably too big now aren't they? They are doing the O2 whereas I always felt EOTR headliners were closer to around theatre size. I'm sure it will be great regardless. I'd love Bon Iver back or Volcano Choir please.
