I think Chris Rock said it best... "Remember back in the day when we all would argue who's better, Michael Jackson or Prince...well, Prince won!"

Yes that was after the paedo allegations. Using that criteria, Milli Vanilli "won".

Wonder if the words 'I am the ressurection' are relevant to anything else going on this weekend??

Would be very surprised if the first people to hear about the return of Jesus Christ were XFM Scotland though.

Is Prince any good then, I've not seen him live but for me it seems he's just a handful of half decent nostalgia tunes from the 80s.

Not that there's anything wrong with that if he puts on a good show mind.

If you don't know too much about him (like me) I'd imagine he's the kind of act where you don't realize how many class tunes he has. He's a superb guitarist too, he'd put on a great show.

A joke, surely.

One of the most prolific and best hit-makers of the eighties (a handful?! half-decent! nostalgia?!).

One of the greatest album-makers of the same era, who has amassed a body of work only very few have equaled in all of rock history.

A musician of unparalleled talent and creativity,

And... One of the most thrilling and unpredictable live performers ever to take to the stage.

yeah, he's 'good'

Not a joke. I'm honestly asking the question, I've been looking at recent gig setlists, all the hits there.

The missus and a few mates went to see him at Wembley and were raving about him.

Might just be me then what with music being subjective and all that. Would go and see him if he headlined on Sunday, see what all the fuss is.

If you appreciate good musician and showmanship, which I'm sure you do, you'd be blown away.

people said the same about Springsteen before he played, too.

As a massive Springsteen fan, this is tough, but I will admit this was perhaps the least inspiring performance I've seen him give (of 12 shows I've seen).

A few factors such as he was touring undoubtedly the worse album of his career (WOAD),and he made absolutely no concessions to the casuals, playing the same kind of set he always plays, plus the weight of expectation was huge.

That said, it can hardly be classed as a 'bad' performance, just somewhat short of the mind-blowing event that us faithful had been promising.

Did anyone see him at IOW in '12? - I thought he killed that one.

I think the respect that Prince has received from quotes and collaborations with the likes of Miles Davis, Eric Clapton, Beyonce, Noel Gallagher, Dave Grohl, Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, Kendrick Lemar, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Nicks etc ad infinitum really speaks of his influence and musicianship(not his personality, ego and mental state cause that they are obvious issues).

I do indeed my friend, if the man is headlining Sunday night I shall now be there, with what sounds like 99% of the festival.

This Neil character will obviously be at west holts watching Kool and Gang. ...... "get down on it"

    • Going with Oxfam.  Just booked my ferry today.  Looking forward!
    • The Radio Dept.?! That's a surprise to me, they haven't toured in like 8 years. Hopefully they will announce some more shows.
    • I was assuming September in Stirling might have a different issue tbf in the form of it just pissing it down.
    • Yeah so many of mine seem to be just France v Spain in one semi and England/Brazil v Argentina in the other. But the fact those combos are the obvious ones mean it feels unlikely that'll happen because in World Cup history, you very rarely end up with what pre-tournament looks like the obvious final 4. We all see teams outperform and underperform. Which one is the fall guy is a different matter.   I've said elsewhere that for me, there's a hierarchy of Spain, France and Argentina as the 3 strongest looking, then England and Portugal, then Brazil and Germany, but that overall, they'd be the 7 likeliest to win. So I dunno, maybe this will be the time the Netherlands avenge the failure of total football in 1974 and achieve what they couldn't achieve through whatever the f**k Nigel de Jong was with his 2010 final karate moves.
