If the Iron Maiden, Metallica, System of a Down rumour is true then I can see it selling fairly well.

Could Nine Inch Nails sub still? They subbed last time and are still a Kili act who is touring around the same time.

Some festival maths throws up a few more interesting names to hope for:

  • Motorhead (Musilac Festival the weekend after)
  • Megadeth (Hellfest)
  • Deep Purple (Hellfest)
  • Alice Cooper (Sweden Rocks, played two Sonispheres before)
  • Soundgarden (Auschwitz festival the weekend before)
  • NoFX (Groezrock)
  • Mastodon (they're just always doing Sonisphere)

The Sabbath rumours seem to make more sense than SOAD, as Sabbath are touring then and SOAD would have been a no brainer for RaR/RiP (although they could just not have been able to fit them in) - but those three, the all time three biggest metal acts, that'd be overkill for an event the size of Sonisphere wouldn't it?

Seriously considering this if Metallica and Maiden play being in Scotland is a bit shit in the sense that i've seen Metallica once and that was in 2009 so would quite like to see them again :) When about is this meant to be taking place? Also are Metallica dates in Scotland possible it's to my understanding that they are only doing festivals next year so would rule us out automatically.

    • Yep, honestly this seems like the most likely option right now.
    • Agree. Also there was a lot more crossing over between stages. I know they need to put the cure, the xx and Gorillaz on the main stages but if they could have put your Blood Orange, Big Thief, Baxter Dury on Cupra and Occident with Jade and Pinkpantheress on the main stages, it would have been a massive improvement.
    • 100% THIS! I haven't quite been able to put my finger on it, but I think you've just nailed why I didn't enjoy this year as much as usual. In last years edition, the likes of Slowdive or Big Thief would have had evening slots at Cupra or Occident, instead of being shoved on to the main stages during the day. Apart from the very biggest acts (ie The Cure, the pop headliners), most performances at Mordor just lack that special "wow, I'm so lucky to be here" feeling that I remember from the Jesus Lizard and Anhoni sets that you've mentioned.  Sidenote: I wonder if there's a decent chunk of ticket holders that gravitate towards Mordor simply because it's the biggest stage, without really caring who's playing at that time, thus the increased (and incredibly noticeable) yapping.
    • Some horrible talkers around me as well for that one. Plus the mobile beer taps pressing through almost all the way to the front, which really should be illegal.
