Sziget 2014

I just wonder with the news that Foals are doing that festival in Luxembourg, on the same weekend of Rock Werchter, if that makes them a decent shout for Sziget?

Obviously, Sziget clashes with Lowlands and Pukkelpop next year, so in theory they should be freed up...

Depends on their touring plans, viewing that they did Pukkelpop/Lowlands last year and there thus is less need for European tours in that period.

Bought my ticket, just before early bird ends! Sziget 2014 here I come again!

To be honest, I don't care much about big names in the line-up. In the end it's always the smaller, newly discovered acts that I enjoy most and Sziget has plenty of them every year. But still I like to speculate, so these are some of the acts that are around at the time of Sziget according to Britishrock.cc (+ Kubana and Arenal Sound which I found by myself):

In Europe during Sziget:
- Blink 182 (Chiemsee Summer, Frequency, Highfield)

- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (Chiemsee Summer, Highfield)

- Seeed (Chiemsee Summer)

- Jimmy Cliff (Chiemsee Summer)

- Carcass (Summer Breeze)

- Machine Head (Summer Breeze)

- Arch Enemy (Summer Breeze)

- Biohazard (Summer Breeze)

- Children of Bodom (Summer Breeze)

- Placebo (Frequency, Highfield)

- Queens Of The Stone Age (Frequency)

- Skrillex (Frequency)

- Jimmy Eat World (Frequency, Highfield)

- Ska-P (Frequency)

- Parov Stelar (Frequency)

- Wilkinson (Frequency)

- Converge (Highfield)

- The Levellers (Beautiful Days)

- Kakkmaddafakka (Dockville)

- Olafur Arnalds (Dockville)

- Hardwell (Rock Oz' Arenes)

- Five Finger Death Punch (Kubana)

- The Hives (Kubana)

- Hardcore Superstar (Kubana)

In Europe shortly before or after Sziget:

- Status Quo (See Rock, Start In Town)

- Bullet For My Valentine (See Rock)

- Uriah Heep (See Rock, Stars In Town)

- Twisted Sister (See Rock)

- In Extremo (See Rock)

- Airbourne (See Rock)

- The BossHoss (See Rock)

- Neil Young & Crazy Horse (Lokerse Feesten)

- Megadeth (Skogsröjet, Bloodstock)

- Billy Bragg (Dranouter)

- Röyksopp (Oya)

- Robyn (Oya)

- Neutral Milk Hotel (Oya)

- NOFX (Punk Rock Holiday, Rebellion Festival)

- Amon Amarth (Brutal Assault, Bloodstock)

- Bring Me The Horizon (Brutal Assault)

- My Dying Bride (Brutal Assault)

- Obituary (Brutal Assault)

- Amy McDonald (Stars In Town)

- Simple Minds (Smukkeste)

- The 1975 (Smukkeste)

- Enter Shikari (Open Flair, Rocco Del Schlacko, Taubertal)

- Opeth (Getaway Rock)

- Volbeat (Getaway Rock)

- Dimmu Borgir (Getaway Rock)

- Hatebreed (Bloodstock)

- Saxon (Bloodstock)

- The Real McKenzies (Ieperfest)

- Fatboy Slim (SonneMondSterne)

- Deadmau5 (SonneMondSterne)

- Steve Aoki (SonneMondSterne, Lake Festival)

- Modestep (SonneMondSterne)

- The Bloody Beetroots (SonneMondSterne)

- Netsky (SonneMondSterne)

- Calvin Harris (SonneMondSterne)

- Klangkarussell (SonneMondSterne)

- Mr. Oizo (SonneMondSterne)

- Oliver Koletzki (SonneMondSterne)

- Subway To Sally (M'era Luna)

- Paradise Lost (M'era Luna)

- Metronomy (Leeds, Reading)

- Jake Bugg (Leeds, Reading)

- Disclosure (Leeds, Reading)

- Of Mice & Men (Leeds, Reading)

- I Am Legion (Leeds, Reading)

- David Guetta (Lake Festival)

- Steve Angello (Lake Festival)

- Joachim Garraud (Lake Festival)

- Azealia Banks (Arenal Sound)

- Mando Diao (Arenal Sound)

- Knife Party (Arenal Sound)

- Boys Noize (Arenal Sound)

- Miles Kane (Arenal Sound)

- The Wombats (Arenal Sound)

Volbeat has already been announced for VOLT and Azealia Banks, David Guetta and Steve Angello for Balaton Sound, so the chance for them is small. Besides that I wouldn't count on many metal bands.

If the 'Fun' Lovin' Criminals play I might end up having two tickets for sale.

WORST. BAND. EVER. (Apart from the Darkness, maybe).

I have to agree about Fun Lovin Criminals - tried to watch them twice now live and it's impossible - really dull - can't see what all the fuss is about! Lee Scratch, on the other hand, would be one step closer to convincing us to buy tickets! Really hope they review their no rock & metal policy for 2014 - would so love to return to Sziget!

The chances for Fun Lovin' Criminals at Sziget are still quite small, as Lakefest is not that near to Hungary. There's much more chance for some of the bands of Frequency coming to Sziget, since that festival is very close (Austria) and has had many same acts on their bill as Sziget in the past few years.

I've been going to Sziget with many friends from all over Europe for many years now, so I'm certainly not a loner, but I'm sure that even if I'd be going alone I'd have a great time. Since people come to Sziget from all over the world, many of them are very open for making new friends, especially with people from other countries than their own.

Merry Christmas!

really looking forward to!

2 questions

*usually there is an announcement of some bands before the end of the early bird tickets sale? how was it last year?

if I remember right Blur was announced before Januray

*let's say I would decide to buy tickets today or tomorrow in an early bird price how much cancelling tickets costs? is it more than the 10 euros difference between early bird price and advance round one price?

Not sure if you can cancel tickets after you've paid for them. Personally, I'm going to wait for some announcements before forking out for tickets - even if it does cost a bit more ....

What do you think about Blink-182 headlining Sziget ?

they are touring europe in August and have already announced these dates:

-Chiemsee summer festival in south of germany: 13-17.8.2014

-Highfield festival (east of germany): 15-17.8.2014

-Frequency festival (east of Austria): 14-16.8.2014

-Stuttgart, germany: 18.8.2014

-Dortmund, germany:19.8.2014
-Hamburg Crash Fest, germany: 20.8.2014

So i think there is a possibility they'll headline the wednesday night (13.8.2014) because frequency fest is really near Budapest and after headlining this festival, they will go and perform in Germany from the south to the north.

Just an idea !

Arctic Monkeys will play in Japan on the 16-17th August, so they could play at Sziget on the 13th. Why not? They would have 2 spare days to move to Japan, I guess it's enough time.

After looking other festival acts, these are my predictions:

Headliners: Blink-182, The Black Keys, QOTSA, Placebo, Mackelmore [Others: Linkin Park, Metallica, Skrillex, Pixies]

-Matt Bellamy from Muse said in a recent interview they could play a festival in East Europe this summer.

-Arcade Fire are touring the USA in August, unfortunately.

I asked to a Facebook admin of "Sziget Italia" and he told me they're going to announce the first names before the end of January. I guess next week we'll have something.
