Crowd was fairly small. As small as I've seen for a headliner, apart from Metallica. 

I was bored senseless for most of the gig.

I arrived a few songs in after seeing Paolo on the Other Stage. Took the track up by the Mandela bar and come into the field at the top right hand corner. The feeling of euphoria seeing the field alive and AF already playing was amazing, I thought it was an amazing set.

The pyramid fields a tough place for a punter due to its size, get in the right spot, around the right people,  like I did for AF and its magic. If you don't it can be a tough, boring night.

I really enjoyed their set at glastonbury. I was right down the front surrounded by people who were big fans and the atmosphere was sensational. Flares going off around me, an abundance of booze and substances being shared. Magic stuff.

And I went into the gig not being a fan of the latest album.

Yeah makes a big difference where you are obviously. I was a bit down the back so the atmos was a bit flat.

But are acts who pulled relatively few punters in asked to headline again?

I've a lot to thank Arcade Fire for.  I went to Glastonbury most years from 1998-2007.  2005s weather put my wife off.  2007s weather put my other main festibuddy off.  Also in 2007 my beautiful son Oliver was born and family life took over for a while.  That was until in late 2013 when I heard that Arcade Fire were going to headline.  The seeds were sown, and as resale day came I found myself drawn to the keyboard and bagged myself a ticket.  My wife thought I was a nutter going on my own but it was a wonderful experience with AF one of the highlights.  Still the only time I've made the effect to get near the front for a Pyramid headliner.  I've been every year since and plan to for as long as my legs will carry me.  So thank you Arcade Fire.

Didn't get tickets the year they headlined G but I've seen AF loads, best time being the neon bible tour at Brixton and Ally Pally. Been going downhill live since then. Hyde Park and Earls Court for The Suburbs and Reflektor were poor venues, sound was awful both times.

Here's to the days when they play smaller venues with better sound again!

Funny that - the Earl's Court gig was by far the best thing I'd heard there. I remember walking in from the back when Lorde was on though, and there was really bad echo and interference. But plenty of time to move.

I imagine the who's crowd wasnt huge in 2007, might be wrong though, I wasnt there.

It was big enough but it was chucking rain down all night and a lot of people had gone home at stage. Sunday in 2007 was quite depressing.

I really wanted to see the who, but found myself at the other stage and just thought "fuck it" and watched the chems. The walk was just too dreadful to consider.

The monday morning was the most depressed I've ever been. Putting your filthy tent down in the pissing rain, walking to the car in the pissing rain. Awful scenes.

I was the same, except I didn't get past the back of the Other stage field, then went back to cower under our broken gazebo.

I remember leaving thinking "Giving it a skip next year". Which I did. The weather, the delays, the shitty sound (including AFs gig on The Other), Lost Vagueness slowly dying a death and the weird transitional atmosphere all weekend made it a very odd year.

I think that was when the sound at Other was dependant on where you were stood.  I though the drums on Power Out was the finest thing I heard all weekend.

I was back and to the left and couldn't hear shit. Remember Zoe Ball, Suggs and a few of that lot standing beside me and they all headed off about halfway through. As did lots of people.

It's a while ago, but I think I was fairly far forward on the right.  Certainly in front of the mixing desk.

Yeah, agree with this. Not been impressed with the sound there previously but didn't have any problems then.

That night is right up there with the best times I've seen them. Cracking atmosphere!

Definitely, I'd imagine if you're at the back for any band it's because you're not that keen, so all your going to be surrounded by are other people who aren't that keen either.

I was about a quarter of the way back with lots of people who loved them and had a great time, I've listened to the recording of that gig a fair few times too and the crowd do sound in to it

I've seen Arcade Fire 3 times, although I should have seen them 4 times.

I got tickets for the Lille show in 2007 but they canceled a bunch of European dates right after the Paris gigs because Win's vocal chords or something. I was devastated as I'd never seen a band abroad so I thought that might be my only chance. 

Fast forward to 2016 and I've seen them at Hyde Park in 2011 (special because it was my first time but I don't think it was their best performance, sound wasn't good and crowd was kinda shitty). Then twice in 2014. Lollapallooza AR and Glastonbury. Glastonbury is still the best gig I've been too.

Agreed , the Earl's Court gig has got to be one of the best gigs I've ever been too, everything was just perfect (which is why I'd be sad if they they do away with all the extras!), it was so good I was left a little disappointed initially by the Glastonbury show but looking back on it, that too was brilliant, just not Earl's Court levels of good!

I see no reason why couldn't come back with a new album or two, Muse and Coldplay do it, why not one of the best live bands around? (Equally like others there isn't a reason for them to do it anymore than they want to and the festival wants them back, but they did seem to enjoy it last time!)

Reckon Arcade Fire at the G is the best ever set I've seen there, one of if not my favourite ever festival set.

Never seen them live apart from that; I was at Leeds in 2010 but I watched Atari Teenage Riot and Ash instead. And I don't regret it, so there.

Also Reflektor is brilliant for the most part, it's just dragged down by a couple of bum tracks, but it's also got more great tracks than any other album of theirs.

Do a proper tour in 2017 please, including proper venues in multiple UK cities.

Flashbulb Eyes remains a real stinker but Porno is ace! who'd have thought Arcade Fire would ever release a g-funk song?

other stinkers on the album for me are We Exist, Here Comes the Night Time 1 + 2 and You Already Know (and even then We Exist and Here Comes the Night Time aren't terrible - just not amazing either. You Already Know is proper filler)

Flashbulb Eyes is ok, but it's b-side material. Porno is enjoyable. Normal Person and You Already Know are the turds in the hamper there, with the middling We Exist in there it makes the first disc of the album drag and that kills what should have been a masterpiece album.
