Following the adulation I've seen him get on here i'm going to give the music a go.

Where should I start? It would feel like i'd cheated if i went straight for the "essentials" or "greatest hits"

I don't think there's any shame in starting with Lovely Creatures, it's a decent run through his career. Hard to suggest a jumping off point as he zips about a bit, people have make lists on this thread every 2/3 pages so maybe scroll back and see how they got on.

I reckon they get more and more likely to be booked with every headline set they put in at the european festivals this summer. The reviews are nothing short of stellar. These are not small festivals either.

Why would glastonbury not want to book an act who is being reported as currently the best live act in the world? Not just in the music press but in the mainstream media too. It makes no sense at all.

Imagine booking a badly past it has-been like madonna over an icon at the top of their game? Would be utter lunacy (obviously there are 3 headliners so it's not an either-or situation, but the point stands).

What he said... although I probably would watch Madonna and enjoy it.

Can we all just agree that Cave is playing, though? We can argue the specifics later but they're going to be there (but only if I am).

Unfortunately I don't really see them playing next year. It'll have been two years since Skeleton Tree was released and they've done all the European fests around Glasto this year.

Maybe the Eavii can convince them to play as a one off like The National, mind (if it was a headline slot they'd obviously be more likely to do this). They presumably have a good relationship with the band.

It's an impossible question really. Let Love In or Tender Prey seems like a good place, but almost all of their albums are different from each other, so even if you didnt like the two I've suggested, then you would probably like some of the others....

As someone else said, check out the greatest hits and then listen to the album of the tracks you liked off it. Most of the album tracks are better than the songs picked for the greatest hits imo...

Also, google "glastonbury 2013 nick cave jubilee street". It's well ace.

Awh man they've taken his live at Fonda Theatre set off his site, hopefully gearing up for the full DVD release of Live in Copenhagen...

This is an awful jumping off point but it's incredibly satisfying and has soundtracked the last 15 minutes of work on a Friday for many years

I see they played shoot me down the other night. Of all the songs they've done, I wonder why they picked that one?

No idea unfortunately!  He seemed to disappear off the radar after last year's fest and hasn't been seen since.

At the APE show, there was a part where he was walking around through the crowd. Anyone remember what song it was during?

Deanna. Then brought the crowd with him on stage for Stagger Lee. What a night.

Ahhh, right. Was hoping to find a video of it somewhere...

Deanna was probably one of the best live songs I've heard this year. The area of the crowd I was in was great, seemed like everyone was having the time of their life tbh. I miss it :(

I'm a pretty recent fan and I would say my favourites include

Jubilee Street

Higgs Boson Blues

From Her To Eternity

Magneto (any live version, the arrangement is so much better)

Into My Arms

The Weeping Song

Some would say I'm a typical "new fan" who prefers the mellow stuff!

I am not sure he could heading Glastonbury.  Amazing if 35,000 - 40,000 really did go to APE (it certainly seemed incredibly busy) but I think it would be a light crowd...

Aye, sobering piece to wake up to the other day. Part of the heart of this band.

Although he hasn't played with the Bad Seeds for nearly 3 years (and wasn't part of these all-conquering Cave concerts in 2017 and 18), still a big loss. He contributed a lot up to Dig Lazarus Dig, and seemed like a warm hearted person. RIP.
