But the tickets were free with a small administrative charge. It's more of a promotional event than a festival. In fact, up until last year, it was a lottery to see who even got tickets in the first place. Playing it guarantees you airplay on Radio 1. That's how they get such big acts to perform.

Not expecting a lot for the Derry line-up though. If they'd had a big name, I'm sure they'd have announced it by now.

Managed to get tickets to all 3 days.

I think its clear than Beyonce wont be playing, she's in Poland on 25th and Denmark on 27th. Would be seriously surprised if she made her way to Derry on 26th then back to mainland Europe the next day. Probably isnt even logistically possible with equipment etc..

However, some acts I that will likely play are:

Pete Tong (self-confirmed for the Friday on his website)

Lana Del Rey (playing Dublin on the Sunday so could play on the Sat)

Bastille (pulled out of supporting Muse in London on the Sun, likely to play this)

Haim (playing Dublin on the Sat so will likely appear on the Sun)

ASAP Rocky (also playing Dublin over that weekend so looks possible)

Judge Jules (Irish dates on the Fri and Sat so will likely play on the Sun)

And the likes of The Vaccines, Miles Kane, Jake Bugg, Macklemore, Alica Keys & Rita Ora have suitable tour dates.

Expect to see most of these acts.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see One Direction appear. It would tie in with the Radio 1 love-in with them and would explain why they've taken the very unusual step of announcing the line-up after the tickets have gone (fear of Directioners ruling the place).

Could maybe see Alicia Keys play the Sunday? She's touring in the UK anyway and has a show on the Saturday and then a few days off so that could be possible.

The whole build-up seems very low-key this year. The whole 'Breakfast Tour' thing seems fairly desperate. I expect they're taking things a bit easier after the Hackney Weekend, and I'd expect that to be reflected in the line-up.

Although incidentally I would be surprised if those appearing on the 'Breakfast Tour' didn't appear on the weekend itself - so Union J, The 1975, Little Mix and Bastille so far.

I really don't know what people were expecting. It's a standard festival bill (and a standard Radio 1 Big Weekend bill, the most current acts that Radio 1 have been giving airplay to performing).

They've been really lucky with headliners the last couple of years with Rihanna, Jay-Z, Gaga and Foo Fighters. Before then, the headliners were pretty average - Florence and the Machine (after their first album), Pendulum, Snow Patrol, Prodigy, The Kooks etc.

The Script just added to Sunday. Another V act..

For me the issue isn't that the line-up looks horrendous in itself. It doesn't. It's not great, but there are a lot of very popular people there. The main issue for me is that none of the 'interesting' acts are unique, they're all playing other festivals this summer.
