Tatting on the Monday: What's the best thing you have found that has been left behind?

One of our gang one year found a small one person hiking tent and also an airbed which had been abandoned - separately.

Took them, stupidly without checking to his next fest, Problem was that there was a broken pole for the entrance to the hiking tent which reduced the height of the entrance to just 12 inches. He then found that the airbed was really think - about 14 inches high. So he ended up with an almost impossible task of getting in to a tent with an entrance completely bunged up by an airbed.

took a massive tent which had an enourmous porch with 3 big rooms coming off. the crew who were using it came internationally and so left it behind, we also found a few dollars inside. this was in 2010 though when we were blessed by weather - we didnt bother in 2011.

tents and alcohol are left behind in abundance. seriously if you take a sack truck down you could take many many crates back to the car.

Best thing I've read all day, thanks. Genuinely laughed very loud.

On the subject of tatting I'm with mr code. How do you know something is abandoned and it's not just someone who slept in til mid morning and has gone off to find a cuppa? I saw people tatting at 10am in Dairy in 2011.

In 2009 quite a few people around me on Pennards took everything they wanted to the cars on the sunday morning and never returned, so I wasn't averse to stealing their airbed as mine had punctured the previous night.

The tatting is a great way of clearing up the site and recycling what the wasters leave behind.

Its usually pretty obvious when stuff has been abandoned but I would not leave anything unattended on Monday morning as mistakes can easily be made.

2011 we got a new pop up tent and some spares for the damaged gazebo.

A guy next to us walked off with a great looking mexican hat.

The field was basically a go outdoors/ millets showroom which you could wander round and take your pick.

Also never seen so many inflated air beds in one place

We will be on the look out for more ppo-up quecha stuff this year

Trouble is a lot of the cheap camping stuff thats left behind is rubbish. Thats why its been left behind.

Perhaps they should consider putting a landfill tax on dodgy gear that doesnt last.

This year for the first time I will be a licensed driver with my own car. This is only going to lead to trouble and arguments on return to home. I have always tatted and brought back semi and very useful items over the years. This year it will be on the hunt for booze, tents, nice useful stuff and similar items that were left last time that have kerching written all over them.

Not at Glastonbury but I made away with full crates of Strongbow and a 12 man tent 3 years ago. Completely abandoned (watch them leave and saw other's ransack) but cans were in an unopened box and the tent was brand new- however, I managed to rip the thing before I got it home (major rip- I have NO idea how) so had to bin it

I'll be hanging around for a while on the Monday as I always do. Not just for the tatting but because of waiting for the queues to die down and I love having a mini wander looking at everything being broken down.

In light of the increasing number of people intending to tat I think i'll need to be putting a sign on my tent to say it hasn't just been left. Last thing I want is someone to mistakenly think it has and I get back to see it gone!

A lovely wool blanket found inside a broken tent thats on my bed now. I'm after a cheaper tent for Reading festival as well this year, a friend of mine ended up with a huge caping rucksack of cider in 2011.

On the other side of the coin I lost count of the amount of people eyeing up and walking around my mates larger pop up tent in 2011 and us telling them to f*ck off, I wouldn't leave anything behind without anyone keeping an eye on it on a car run.

I'd like to grab a free tent but usually by Monday I'm a shadow of the man that arrived; broken, hungover, shivering, in need of a good meal - a good wash too - and the thought of lugging all my own gear along with a free tent is probably too much that shell of a man that Glasto leaves me.

Glastonbury does look unbelievable though when you see the state it gets left in.

Well how did you tatters get on? I managed 50 cans of Beer/Cider and a couple of boxes of wine. Pennards was dreadful this year, lots of rubbish but anything that might have been usefull had been trashed, mind you Worthy View was a little gold mine, it seems those who couldn't be bothered to carry or put a tent up and could afford it, had a similar attitude to their left over beer :)

4 crates of kopperberg still cling filmed to a trolley in which our pig neighbours said we could call shotgun on, they were utterly horrid, lovely people to camp by and socialise with, but left 6 tents and a gazebo, and stupid amounts of rubbish, I questioned them about it and they just shrugged... I did my bit by removing hazardous substances.. Cider!
