Sort of agree with mokey1989, there. I mean, I do occasionally make snap judgements of bands without really hearing enough of them, but Arcade Fire have some wonderful albums, the songs played tonight are two of their worst ever (although Normal Person is pretty fun live), for me.

You two come across a bit evangelical! I'm stepping away cos I'm in fear of being coerced into some kind of cult.

G'night.

I’d say more curious as to why people don’t think Arcade Fire should be headlining Glastonbury. “They’re shit”, although a compelling case, isn’t really relevant. But yeah, evangelical works too.

Can I join in please? I don't think Kasabian are worthy headliners because I think they're shit.....

Are Metallica a worthy headliner?

I haven't watched tonight's programme yet btw but I'm concerned that Arcade Fire have become a little bit shit of late. I'm a big fan and believe them to be worthy headliners but I'm getting nervous about their Glastonbury set now.....

You might want to give it a miss, in that case. You Already Know made me wince a bit.

Why do you think they’re getting shit, out of interest? I mean, Reflektor wasn’t great, but there’s some really good songs, and everyone’s entitled to a dip. Their live shows have been getting a great response, and the Blackpool gig was the best I’ve ever seen them, despite playing several songs I don’t particularly care for.

EDIT: Added “out of interest” not to seem evangelical, and to emphasise my unwavering respect for your right to an opinion different to mine.

Haha - don't worry, I've been accused of the same in the past!

I have to admit I haven't really got in to Reflektor. It just hasn't pushed my buttons. I saw them at the Roundhouse but got so ridiculously hammered I don't remember a lot about it but I watched the Coachella gig on YouTube and it just didn't seem to have the vibrancy I've come to expect from their live performances. The more I think about it though the more I think I may just be scarred by my own stupidity re the Roundhouse thing. What if I can never love them again?!

Yeah, it doesn’t have to be mutual love. It’s a discussion forum, do you lot not like discussion? I’m genuinely curious, but everyone seems to just respond with “I’m entitled to my opinion”, instead of, y’now, actually responding.

I don’t love it by any means, but HCTNT and Afterlife are great additions to the setlist. I watched the Coachella set and felt similar, but I also watched some of their festival sets in South America and they looked brilliant. I guess maybe that’s the problem, I’m overexposing myself to them a bit too much, probably just best to wait until the actual experience.

Its not that fucking simple though is it? Music fuels the soul. Some songs can make you cry, give you goosebumps, make you happy and really tug at your gut.

How does one explain that? Pure emotion.

Arcade Fire leave me feeling cold. Like handling wet fish. Can't explain better than that nor do I "owe" you a better one.

So as discussed, this is the Jools thread, there were other artists on the show. If you want to have a chat about Arcade Fire where everyone shares the same view well you know where to go.

Yep, I'll definitely be there as I could never forgive myself if they pulled another Reading out of the hat and I wasn't there to see it. I think that's maybe my problem though, I think that is one of the single greatest headline performances I've ever seen (only watched recordings and wasn't there in person so forgive me) and am desperate for a repeat at Glastonbury.

I saw them at the MEN a couple of years ago too and was blown away then so they definitely have it in them :)

Damn that Roundhouse gig! :(

Yeah, but that’s not the question I’ve asked several times. I’m curious as why people (not just you, by the way) don’t think they’re worthy headliners. It’s not in a snide way, if people actually responded with genuine reasons, then it may actually lead to an interesting broader discussion. Oh well.

I’m not sure where you’re getting that bit in bold from, because I’m deliberately returning to this thread where people have different opinions. There’s not really much discuss when everyone loves them.

"How great is Funeral?"

“Yeah, it’s really great."

“Nice one. Glad we agree."

No just that its about a programme that one particular band happened to be on amongst others and it seems to have totally taken over the thread.

I don't post in the AF thread cos they don't interest me nor do I have any interest in being interrogated as to why I don't like them.

If one wants to chat about how great they are and with like minded people well, as said there is a thread already there for that purpose.

The Reading set is my favourite for sure. They have maybe lost a bit of energy on stage, but hey, they’re getting old.

Maybe try reading the bit about music feeding the soul. You "might" get it!

Setlists man , setlists and why they have left certain songs out (and Floorfiller likes to bring up Flashbulb Eyes being shit for something different!).

Anyway people hating on Arcade Fire, your ears are clearly only good enough to listen to Mini Viva :P
