Product placement has been a part of Bond films since the very first one. Whether it be his brand of gun (Walther) or the cigs he smoked (Chesterton). In fact products are name checked within Flemings original novels.

I think the fuss over the latest Bond is more about fans wanting to see products they associate with Bond than other brands who have paid more to be featured. Martini instead of Heineken for example.

Which is daft in my opinion, and just shows the power of product placement in the first place...

Actually I didn't see any product placement besides the mentioning of a 50 Year Macallan which is used as part of a pretty significant scene and a setup to a Bond quip, of all things.

The Aston and the Walther appears too, so really there was fuck all product placement that I can remember, so if there was any, it was entirely subliminal or part of the background. Maybe the computers were branded but they didn't make a point of it.

I have no problem with product placement if it's to service the fiction i.e to make the world relatable and real. The fact that Skyfall had so little is pretty amazing since, in real life, you can't go anywhere without a brand being shoved in your face.

I meant the Dark Knight comparison in how there are distinct parallels between the protagonist and antagonist of each movie. An orphaned, tortured dogmatic agent of order with a blackbelt in cool gadgets vs a charismatic, darkly comical, dangerously creative, facially disfigured, enigmatic criminal mastermind nihilist with a penchant for explosives and fire. Hmm.

I watched Moonrise Kingdom and it's pretty good but I still don't get why Wes Anderson is so highly regarded tho.

Had the same convo with a mate whos a big Anderson fan. I dont get it. Think the films are nice, quirky etc.

He said its about the way its shot, colours and some other shit that doesnt appeal to me that strongly.

Car chases, explosions and big tits do me to be honest.

(joke)

I thought Skyfall was excellent. Very reminiscent of the early Connery films - no nonsense, not too many gadgets or silly jokes (think Dr No or From Russia With Love).

I'm not sure it's better than Casino Royale though, which is probably still Daniel Craig's best. It's light years ahead of Quantum of Solace though.

By Daniel Craig's best, do you mean film or Bond film? As I reckon Layer Cake is his best film.

There was the 'I think they were VW Beetles' line as well

But agree otherwise

Just got back from seeing it, and I enjoyed it a lot. Glad I watched Dr No in the week
