Great new Documentary on BBC 4 Friday night. Can U Feel it?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0bkz064/can-you-feel-it-how-dance-music-conquered-the-world-series-1-1-the-beat

Never knew Joe Smooth was inspired to write this after visiting the UK for the first time in the Autumn of 1987. Back then this was the "Promised Land"

How far we have fallen.... :(

Great doc - I second that recommendation. Actually came out with some new/interesting info that I hadn’t heard before in other docs

I've caught up with the first 2 episodes now.  Like Homer says, there's the odd new bit of info in there, and some good talking heads to tell the story.  My old boss Andy McKay cropped up too.  I worked for Manumission once upon a time, and used to have to go to him at Bar M (as it was then) to pick up my wages.  I'd never seen the likes of Manu at the time, nor since, and I'm happy to see, a decade after it ended, it now assuming a worthy place in the pantheon.

If I could turn back time, I'd go back to those days, just for a while.  To see Space, DC10 again as open air day venues, followed by a night in Privilege with 10,000 others at Manumission.  A youth well spent, even if I do say so myself :)

By the by, I was on the white isle a couple of weeks ago.  I went to Pikes, to listen to Harvey, because everyone should.  Carl Cox was there, on a day off.  And I bumped into Sneak on the Ryanair flight back home.  The scene might be massive these days, but my heroes are still accessible.

I'm talking 17 years ago that a small bottle of water was £14 in Manumission.

(so i decided I might as well drink the cocktails at £22  )

Tbf to Manumission, those guys were always good to the workers out there. We got free entry and our own bar with reduced price drinks.  This was not an idea copied by many on the island!
