Just listened to the Bastille album.

I've always liked Flaws, Laura Palmer & Icarus since I first heard them a couple of years ago now, I'm sure that's when it was just Dan's solo project. Pompeii is really catchy & grows on, same can be said for Things We Lost in the Fire (stupid name).

The rest of it just seems to lul & I don't really care for it. I think it deserves a bit more credit that I perhaps originally gave it, but I'm really not impressed by the way the sound has evolved. Guess that's just the way some of these things go.

Everything has to be so immediate these days, bands dont come into there own until 3rd or 4th albums but are not given the time to develop there skills.

People only seem to give an album one listen aswel and if there not hooked straight away wont bother again. Its the main problem with illegal downloads and music subscription services, if you actully pay for the album your going to give it more time than 1 or 2 listebs if you get it for free.

Just my opunion though.

I don't think that was the point, because at least you're listening and giving it a shot. Like I said sometimes you just don't like it.

I think it was more that it's too easy now to ignore the concept of the album, to download single songs after listening to convenient thirty-second samples and not bother with a whole album, and therefore bands are pushed and pressured into making everything instantly appealing and releasing more singles, making more promotional appearances and more easily-digestable songs.

Bnads should be allowed time to grow and not expected to produce world-beaters for their first record.

I'm not, Trent is my firm though so provided I get the grades I'll be there from September :P

So unfortunately I can't help you too much, although I do know Nottingham supposedly has the most bars, pubs and clubs per square mile than any other city in Europe :sarcastic: You've also obviously got Rock City, Rescue Rooms and the arena as well. From what I've seen its a really nice city.

Most bands who have been doing the local circuits will have enough good material to knock out one good album that's appealing as a debut, the problem is when it comes to the second album they don't have any material and are forced into making a shite second album too quickly or they just simply don't have enough good ideas to make it.

Add that to the fact music companies are looking for here and now hits means that the specific sound from a band aren't still necessarily going to be the in thing when the second album is released.

Where as those albums with more depth, meaning and better lyricism that can take a while to appreciate are being missed and those with skill for song and music writing and staying power are overlooked. We could have 100 fratellis, alt j's, the bravery's and miss out on many bands with the potential to headline.
