2 headliners booked

Motley Crue will surely be playing as they're doing Swedenrock and they've had their break which is what Andy wanted

Biffy... I just don't see as a headliner and never will, they're just not big enough and certainly ot big enough for the 10 year anniversary, people are expecting big names and Biffy just aint one of them, second stage headliner perhaps. Be interesting where he places Biffy if they're booked. Myself, I don't think he should book them, and I don't mind Biffy, they're just being booked too high up on line ups these days.

For what its worth I think he's booked Rammstein and Metallica as the two headliners.

Metallica's UK deal with Soni is up, and they've just confirmed they're working on the next album.

I asked him on twitter ''Glad two are booked, hope you're very happy with them. Close on a third?''

and he replied ''Very happy with the two and the third? Well, I hope they play ball...they'd be mad not to join this party''

So it sounds like he has someone lined up for the third they just haven't confirmed, glad he isn't clutching at straws.

Looking forward to the announcement, He has said tonight it shouldn't be long, and asked if November he said something like hopefully.

So sounds like theyre gunna aim to announce November or at least before Christmas probably so they an go onsale for Xmas and also surely Soni will be announcing soon as usual, and of course all the fests in Europe announcing too.

I think we're looking at Rammstein & either Pearl Jam/Foos as the two confirmed & the 3rd is likely to be the replacement for Van Halen (I'd love it to be Metallica).

On last weeks Metal Hammer podcast they were talking about festie headliners & one of the 'Hammer' guys said 'I've heard a rumour that I can't repeat but think of the biggest, mainstream rock band out there'…that says Foo Fighters to me.

Getting Biffy to sub to the Foo's would make sense after they recently supported them, plus it'd be a little swipe at Soni getting there previous headliner to play a lower slot.

Biffy are easily big enough to headline. They were superb last year at Soni and I respect Soni for havingh the balls and giving them a headline spot. It wasn't a popoluar decision with the metal heads but they won a lot of people over with that performance. Biffy are exactly the type of band Download need to book if they want to avoid the the same headliners over and over again. They are an arena selling band, popular on the radio and will attract some new blood to Download.

Metallica may play it as a one off but I'm pretty sure they will be having a year off after touring Death Magnetic pretty intensly over the past few years.

Rammstein are probably a shoe in and The Foos would be a real coup. Let's wait and see.....

I was busy watching Black Spiders during Biffy Clyro at Soni last year. I feel I made the right choice!

Book Biffy Clyro by all means, but put Motley Crue on the second stage at the same time!

Do you think Green Day are a possibility? I don't think there are many bands that could outsell them ticket-wise. Not even the Foo Fighters after they played everywhere last year!

Rammstein & Iron Maiden? I think Maiden are doing a US tour next year and doubt they would do any of their own shows after touring the whole of the UK last year. It'll be a nice touch too since they were the 1st headliner.

As for Biffy it's only a matter of time before they start headlining the likes of TITP and R&L so they may aswell book them but doubt AC will so he can't be accused for copying Soni.

I reckon as things stand they'll need to first headline TITP to be thought of as in the running for headlining R&L.

They can get away with being the headliner at a 'specialist' fest like Soni at the moment, and the fact that they're Scottish gives them extra kudos to get them to the level of headliner for T, but they're still a little short in stature I reckon to headline a more general festival outside of Scotland such as R&L.

Biffy @ Glastonbury 2011 were amazing and totally converted me to their potential headliner quality.

As i see it at the moment 2012 ticket sales may well be based upon headliners and his choice of sub headliner as i sense that the loyalty to the festival has decreased over the past 2-3 years. We can all discuss then moan till the cows come home, but if a band or artist is approached and turns down the opportunity whether it be to to the fee offered or the fact that they will not be on the road at the time then what can A.C do?

I think if they're going to make a big deal out of the 10th birthday thing they're going to need to pull out the stops on the headliner front. I know it's not particularly imaginative, but I would imagine that even if they're not touring anywhere else Maiden and/or Metallica can't be ruled out as a possibility given their history at the fest.

Biffy, whilst capable, lack the "special" feel of a seasoned headliner, to some extent the same goes for Rammstein, so I think if we get one, we won't get the other.

Foo Fighters are pretty much the only band I can see Biffy subbing to, but I'm not convinced they can get them unless Dave was approached in 2010 when TCV played - there was talk of a headliner being booked then, maybe it was 2 years in advance and the paperwork has been finalised now. I can't see any other scenario that sees the Foos at Download and not Reading/Leeds.

Other than that, it all depends on what vibe they want, whether it's a "10 years in and Download can still book fresh headliners", or a "Greatest hits of Downloads past".... Or of course it could just be the typical "shit, we need to book some bands, who's available? Nickelback, Paramore and Def Leppard? That'll do, I'm off to the pub" that it sometimes seems is the case.

It won't be Iron Maiden, someone on the forums spoke to Janick Gers backstage a few weeks back and they said they have no plans to tour in 2012.

Lucky Salt, Biffy are more than big enough to headline after doing so at Sonisphere this year, Rammstein are doing a 20 date tour of the US in May/June next year, I can't see Metallica playing Download again, especially a year after doing Sonisphere, history shows they usually do R/L after a new album.
