For almost ten years Mr Kyps in Lower Parkstone, Poole, has been keeping the spirit of live music alive with their weekly mix of some of the best tribute bands in the business alongside some fantastic original groups and artists.

This summer they’re going one better by putting on their very own outdoor music extravaganza: The Upbeat Festival, which is shaping up to be one of, if not THE south-coast music event of the year.

Held over the August bank holiday weekend, and situated amongst the breathtakingly beautiful surroundings of Upton Country Park, the festival will be a three day event starting midday on Saturday 27th August and partying all the way through to bank holiday Monday evening.

Headlining the Festival is current rockabilly sensation and retro icon Imelda May, playing hits from her triple platinum debut album ‘Love Tattoo’ as well as showcasing her latest LP ‘Mayhem’ which includes the fantastic single of the same name.

Supporting Imelda also on the Sunday are post-millennium Brit-rockers Toploader. Having just finished putting the finishing touches to their first album since 2003, the band are looking forward to reclaiming their status as one of the country’s top live acts with a string of UK dates across the summer, culminating in what will surely be a landmark performance at Upbeat Festival.

Kicking off the festival on Saturday are no less than seven of the very best tribute acts around today, including Kastoff Kinks (featuring several members of the original 60s rock pioneers), the so-authentic-it-hurts Marc Bolan tribute T.Rextasy, and No Jacket Required, the UK’s premier Phil Collins show.

The festival will also feature performances by internet sensation-turned award wining recording artist Sandi Thom showing off her new blues-tinged sound, gravel-pit folk-soul from Jon Allen, acoustic Radio Two darling Ben Montague, the beautifully emotive blues vocals of none other than the great Deborah Bonham, and Rockin’ The Joint have been drafted in to do exactly what they say on the tin.

With a Monday afternoon/evening featuring local covers acts Souled Out and Rat Race playing old school soul tunes and Jamaican ska/two tone respectively, and finishing off with homage’s to two of the most influential bands ever in the guise of Sergeant Pepper’s Only Dartboard Band and Rollin’ Stoned, Mr Kyp’s Upbeat Festival promises to be a superb weekend of old and new for everyone to enjoy.
