Ed209
I put songkick on my Nexus, and it was fuck all use until I copied music onto it (which I did just to see how songkick might work). The gigs it came up with were gigs I knew about - so it definitely works to some extent. Then again, it didn't come up with anything else, so perhaps it'll only give you the blindingly obvious stuff anyway rather than stuff you wouldn't get to know of. To be fair though Neil, Its kinda your job to know what gigs are coming up ...
eFestivals
To be fair though Neil, Its kinda your job to know what gigs are coming up ... the sorts of gigs that I'm likely to be wanting to go to are not really the sorts of gigs I'm likely to encounter via my job - for example, one of the gigs that songkick found is one I'm off to tomorrow (Twinkle Brothers) .... and I knew about that only because I'm on a few specialist reggae maillists (not via my job) - it's barely advertised even in the town where the show is. Since I've come to know of that show it has been posted onto eGigs by the promoter or the venue or someone, but i think that's more luck and coincidence than anything else. Reggae gigs are, in general, very poorly advertised no matter where they are, because the audiences are often small and the people with an interest in them are not normally within the more mainstream music-interested people - I'm constantly amazed by who I find out I've missed a show from, and at the big names who play in small venues at short notice with almost no publicity. LondonTom
Once you've used song kick a fair a bit and tag the gigs you've actually been to, it does become somewhat useful. It does need some sort of actual recommended feature though as atm it really only makes sure you know about gigs acts you've already seen before or what your most visited venues are doing. (Sometimes before the announcement)

That was how I found that Dillinger Escape Plan gig in Glasgow I was on about earlier in the thread - via the "my places" thing. The other handy way to use it is, if for example you know you are travelling to e.g. Milton Keynes on the 22nd of February, you can add MK as a place, and flip through the calendar to see what gigs are on in that location on that date. The more you use it, the more useful it becomes.

grumpyhack
Limehouse Lizzy at The Globe in Cardiff tonight. Some people may be sniffy about tribute bands but Limehouse put on a great show and are always worth catching.

I'll be there! I thought Deadmau5 there a couple of years ago was decent enough. Lots of bars about. I need to get the new album & listen to the support band. Aren't Joy Formidable supporting Bloc Party???
