Weather thread 2011

You cannot predict the weather even a day in advanced with any degree of accuracy. We never will be able to due to the chaotic nature of weather systems. The best you can do is look out the window and see if the site is likely to be muddy or not. Actually it's probably best not to.

Aye, lookign out of the window it's just gone ominously dark. 100 per cent dark cloud cover. Bastards look brimful of rain. It looks like bloody November out there. I've given up hope of it being really good weather. I can't get past the fact that we're looking at lower than usual temperatures, regular (at best) showers and very little sunshine. But while there's no chance of the weather being perfect we can still hope for the best of what we've got and be hopeful that it sticks to scattered shows rather than perpetual rain as in 2007. Fingers crossed for the Countryfile weather forecast tomorrow.

It was my wedding a year ago today and I remember that on the day before it had seriously thrown it down all day long. I mean proper torrential rain. It had been on off awful for a few weeks as I remember updating my fb status to say that the weather was really starting to scare me. I had already offered my wedding day as a sacrifice to the weather gods for a glorious Glastonbury, but believe me on Friday 18th June last year I was not happy about the prospects for either event.

Still, I woke up on the 19th to glorious sunshine, the whole day was patchy weather wise, but dry, and from the Sunday onwards it was bloody fantastic!

So - to repeat - it doesn't matter what it's doing today.

Latest run is out - it looks good, the low pressure system on both ECM and GFS veers well north on the Sunday. Forecast in build up to that is mainly dry and a little breezy, the kind of weather you'd dry clothes in - must work on the ground too.

As for the Saturday and most of Sunday - clear skies, some higher pressure and temps up to 18.

All in all, you'd take it - last year was an outlier, this year looks fine.

Funny how by reading this thread and using netwather and wikipedia you can become an amateur weather man.

The amount of rain between now and wednesday is crucial to how muddy it is going to be, so I think it is fair enough for people to make predictions on what they're seeing today. Problem is it is not easy to predict how much is going to fall the next few days as is foecast is for isolated rain/showers. Looking like tomorrow and tuesday mostly dry - the important day could be monday as it could be quite wet.

    • The weather we have had whee i am in the last week or so has been.....  All the weather types in random order, wildly changing hour by hour.  Yesterday we had some beautiful semi warm sunshine - and also torrential downpours...   In summary - inconsistent
    • Warmduscher at ATN a couple of years back wins that one for me (or Christy Moore at Feile 92!). It wasn’t cold or windy though, so less unpleasant than it might have been. Hopefully it’ll stay dry for Nick Cave tomorrow!
    • Yeah.   Revisit in 2 weeks, then 👀
