Respect and all that for your stamina, but I'm sure I'm a fair bit older than you. I managed to enjoy (just about mind!!) both of the mudbaths of 1997 and 1998. Only by consuming insane amounts of cider, ale and weed those years -- and even then both years were a struggle.

I went in 97 (without a ticket...boo hiss etc) which was one of the nightmare mudfests when it really was feckin bad - and wish I hadn't...especially as we didn't need to.

Went again in 98, and this time got out on the saturday morning as was becoming a repeat of the year before, got changed into dry, clean clothes had in car and went to a nearby pub to have a few pints and watched some world cup football - possibly one of the most "pleasant few pints in a pub" I have had in my life.

This year, especially as I'm going with missus and 5 year old, if looking like being like 97/98 I am going to make the argument why we shouldn't go. It's just too hard.

But - I probably will...but will be prepared. Honestly y'all out there, prior preparation and planning prevents piss poor glastonbury experience...water proofs and wellies are a must.

In 97 I didn't have them and it was a bit of a nightmare getting through 2ft of mud, no amount of drugs and booze would make it any easier, infact made it harder (nowhere to sit down, had to sleep with shoes/footbags sticking out of tent as no energy to get changed etc etc) - 98 was better prepared and while I was there was much more comfortable.

Anyway.........it's going to be scorchio of course...NFR NFC etc etc

Hang on, am I missing something here?

Although far from perfect the Jackone latest appears to offer a little cautious optimism... Not for a repeat of last year but certainly hope for a very manageable festival?

Cheer up, positive vibes, all will be cool.

Right kids I have made and done my offering to the weather gods suffering the most bizarre stream of weather at a festival I have been at this weekend;

Friday afternoon - cloudy, fairly warm

Friday night - clouds shifted, lush hot sunset, chilling in shorts and t-shirts and on the hunt for cold cider....

...Friday night - that cold, if I had man danglers they would have dropped off and rolled down the hill I camped on like a pair of snowballs...

Saturday morning we wake up to frost. Yes, I said it, FROST. In June.

By Saturday evening I have turned a ridiculous shade of red and have resigned to a corner of the tent, my face covered with cold babywipes, and water-soaked tshirts in an attempt to cool down, with a possible case of sunstroke and a definate case of sunburn, following a hot, hot, HOT Saturday.

Today? It pissed it down. So much we wussed out and were home by early evening.

Now seriously weather gods - take pity on me with my frost bitten toes, and my 'orrible peeling nose - sunshine at Glastonbury please?

:)

It's all my fault folks, I threatened to go or leave early (even tho I never have) if the weather was bad and it's attracted the lightwieghts of the future.

I promise not to post here tomorrow.

for what it's worth a week before NFRNFC :(

I've wasted most of my money today on getting wasted in the pub.

It was the only way, today. The sheer relentlessness and quantity of r**n in Swansea from early on today until pretty damned late, was so outrageous that it was insane -- rather like myself by the end, on being forced to witness that and think MUDDAGEDDON FEAR!!<_< :(:(

Latest from 'Gibby', posting in the Model Output Discussion thread on Netweather. He's pretty well qualified in synoptic predictions, it seems ...

Hi folks.

Here's a look at tonights output from the 12zs of GFS, UKMO and ECM.

GFS shows a couple of drier days now before new Atlantic low pressure takes control from Wednesday with rain and showers moving steadily eastwards eventually to all areas. Temperatures will be somewhat higher than recently though.

http://www.wzkarten3...s/Rtavn1441.png

Further out into lala land low pressure continues to dominate NW Europe slowly receding NE into Scandinavia with time. o further breezy aand rather cool weather continuing with rain or thundery showers at times everywhere before things show signs of drying up from the SW in response to an approaching ridge off the Azores anticyclone at 240hrs

http://www.wzkarten3...s/Rtavn2401.png

UKMO also shows a couple of drier days to follow todays rain with a westerly flow before an Atlantic low drifts in to bring renewed outbreaks of rain and heavy showers to end the week. The weather is shown to be somewhat warmer though with winds from a warmer source than last week.

ECM tonight is also continuing the unsettled and changeable theme with better weather tomorrow and a fine day Tuesday before low pressure returns from Wednesday with rain and thundery showers affecting all places at times. By 144hrs a small wave depression runs east over the south with a spell of heavy rain across the south followed by a return to cool, showery weather.

http://www.wzkarten3...ics/Recm961.gif

http://www.wzkarten3...cs/Recm1441.gif

From day 6 to day 10 the unsettled theme continues with a transient ridge with yet another low pressure drifting into the UK with further rain and showers and generally unsummerlike conditions being maintained.

http://www.wzkarten3...cs/Recm2401.gif

In Summary high pressure seems to be likely to be maintained over Greenland with low pressure crossing the Atlantic on more southerly latitudes than we would like at this time of year. So a continuation of the mix of the last week of rain at times with the best of any drier and brighter weather likely in the south and east as transient ridges pass by.

I had the privilege today to go to the GFs annual family shindig in Somerset not far from the site. It absolutely hammered down from Bristol all the way there except for the beautiful moment heading up the hill past Pylle where the rain had stopped and the sun reflected off the alluminium fence visible from the road which restored my faith in that site. Keep the faith folks...

    • For those who have been to Roskilde before, what is it like for getting a phone signal? To my disappointment, they won't be showing any football matches anywhere so I'm thinking of taking my laptop and trying to hotspot the match on my phone data.   I've had success with this in the past, but never at such a big festival and I've never been to Denmark so not sure how viable this plan is!
    • This Iron maiden thingo at Knebworth seems like its going to be Blue Light bound, i dont think ive ever known another gig to be so pushed on social media and via email! I've been emailed at least five times a week for the last couple of months.    ive entered the ballot for VIP tickets via blue light, and im sure they're going to email me with a 'hey! you didnt win, but as a special thanks here's some half price tickets, fill yer boots' offer in due course - wish there was a way of seeing how many tickets are sold, itd be fascinating reading
    • Bits was absolutely massive. What was it? Three or four stages plus Soho House plus a beach plus would be people transitioning between the stages plus in the chillout areas.   No way was there only 1,000 people in it. When I saw Sofia Kourtesis there it felt like there were just that number watching here alone.
    • Could well be. My gut feeling is Yungblud to play under Foo Fighters who I'll massively shocked if they aren't there. I think Placebo will also be there. My dream 3rd option is that they get The Cure back after a crazy amount of years but I don't see it. RAR don't booked as versatile as they used to years gone by. There is many that are unlikely to appear again.   The biggest thing I took from this year unless you are grab the fast lane addon pass is accept to stand a lot further back to watch your main stage bands to be able to see all you have interest in. I had to sack off a bit of Social Distortion and Within Temptation completely to get up front for Offspring, Maiden and LP....only just made it for that one.   The downside is for next year, booking from over here you cannot get the ticket an an instant app anymore, its €35 euros shipping. Its a nice ticket don't get me wrong bit £30 just for the card
    • Trev, their manager, has sadly passed away. Very grim. Instrumental in getting them to where they are. Seemed like a good bloke when I met him.    On their social media now
