andyblack
Ok, so alongside our larger sister festival celebrating it's 10th birthday, we are 5. This year theres a week long fringe festival across leicester, culminating in the infamous Fringe Thursday warm up parties. The finalised line up will look something like this (bear with me as it'll take me a day or so to detail everything on here): Photo Exhibition : There will be a week long retrospective Photographic Exhibition, celebrating 10 years of SSW and 5 years of the fringe. The exhibition will be on the BBC giant TV screen in Humberstone Gate. The exhibition should run for the length of both festivals so be sure to have a look if you find yourself shopping in the city centre throughout the week / weekend. Fri 6th : Phoenix Square : Offical Fringe launch party : Live music from Silent Devices and Gallery 47 : Free Entry : DJ's, music, videos, photo exhibition of 5 years of the fringe, and some special guest friends. Sat 7th : Independent Arts Centre : Stenchival Sun 8th : The Crumbling Cookie : Barbacoustic Sun 8th : The Orange Tree : Glastontree Sun 8th : Independent Arts Centre : Stenchival Mon 9th : Firebug : Theo, Herra Hidro & November + The Criminal Mon 9th : Independent Arts Centre : Music Promoters Evening Mon 9th : The Musician : Kevin Hewick's Open Mic Tue 10th : Firebug : Polar Bear Club, Without Fire & Guests Wed 11th : Independent Arts Centre : Leicester Music Scene Presents Wed 11th : Firebug : Adebisi Shank, Buenos Aires, Speaking In Italics Thur 12th : Fringe Thursday : Wristbands : £5 The infamous parties return for their 5th birthday, and we've grown from 1 party and 3 bands to 9 parties, 44 bands, and 6 comedians. Full line up will be announced from Sat 10th July, but the venues are : Firebug, The Lansdowne, The Shed, The Donkey, The Independent Arts Centre, The Hind, The Musician, The Y Theatre, and DMH Gardens. The comedy gig is in the beautiful Edwardian Y Theatre, and is presented in conjuncion with Leicester comedy festival. Entertainment will be provided in DMH gardens for those people not so keen on facing the inner city madness. The upstairs venue in Firebug will be transformed into this years late night club night with 2 live band PA's. The open top buses return once more, as last year, with 2 looped runs, and a routemaster to shuttle to the Donkey. The buses will be sponsored by Reach Promotions (www.reachmarketing.co.uk) and Sturgess cars (www.sturgessgroup.co.uk) As always all the acts play for free, the organisers work for free, and we've raised over £3000 in sponsorship to cover pretty much all of the overheads. All profits from the events will be donated to LOROS, the Leicestershire hospice providing respite care for the seriously ill. If we hit our targets, we'll have raised £25,000 since the first fringe gig in 2006, so please give generously. BadDreamLover
Does anyone know of the age limits in any of the pubs? I will have two 16yo boys with me, but my mate's son is 10. I know the Donkey are ok with kids of any age having been there before but ideally I would like to go to the Hind to see the Jazz Butcher. andyblack
Age Limits for venues : firebug : 18+ international arts centre : no alcohol on sale, bring your own donkey : children accompanied by adults shed : 14+ musician : 18+ y theatre (dont know will confirm) hind (dont know, we'll ask the landlord if he's willing to be flexible for us?). we've actually had more enquiries about Pat Fish (The Jazz Butcher)'s appearance than any other. And we're particularly flattered he's agreed to play. if you don't know who he is, theres a great article from the independent explainig all here : http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/who-is-the--jazz-butcher-664964.html

andyblack
re: pat fish we had trouble explaining to people in leicester who he was? i totally agree about the argument he should play ssw. one day perhaps. incidentally i first heard of him when reading a biography on spacemen 3 and spiritualized. and then misterlee and i went to his brilliant `masters of budvar` night in northampton. its taken us 3 years to get him to play the fringe. he's a lovely, lovely man. i've got a lot of time for him. Ed Leaf
Is that all the Leicester acts playing the festival also playing the Fringe then?
andyblack
Yep. Unless one that happens to share our bill also wins the BBC mainstage opening competition. But i wouldn't have any idea about that!
SweepingTheNation
Any idea of the Thursday stage times yet? (Not that they'll be strictly kept to on previous years' evidence, but even so)

BadDreamLover
Has anyone managed to find out about the age policy at the Hind for Thursday night? I have tried calling them on the number given on their website but I'm getting 'the number you have called has not been recognised.' Haven't paid the bill methinks. Kaybee
I have the dubious distinction of being one* of the MCs "on the buses" and the blurb I've been given on age restrictions is this: Firebug : 18 Shed : 14 with adult Donkey : families Independent arts centre: families Musician : 18 Lansdowne : 18 Hind : 18 Sorry if that makes me the bearer of bad news. *There are two of us; for the avoidance of doubt, I'm the one who's a bit shit. andyblack
im really sorry, i have to say this is the case and the hind looks to be 18+, we cant track down the landlord to confirm it. Southernmarksmith, if you can pm me your mobile number we're chasing julian (hind landlord) and as soon as i hear from him, i'll happily drop you a text to confirm either way? im really sorry for this problem. andyblack
the comperes for the 2010 fringe festival open top buses are 1, ms kaybee 2, mr mervyn western, of the punk band roused to burning homes. there are also security personnel on both buses, and the police will also ride the bus routes during the event. nothing made me more unhappy / saddened last year then the behaviour of some drunk teenagers on the buses last year. thus : the comperes are there to publicly ridicule any examples of bad behaviour. no alcohol will be allowed on the bus no alcohol will be consumed on the bus if people misbehave on the bus, their wristbands will be removed there and then and they will be prevented attendance to any other fringe events. simplez. these are the rules. please feel free to call mervyn : little merv. he likes it very much. chibukushakeshake
Apologies in advance if this has been answered elsewhere but i only get a very limited amount of "non bussiness related" internet time in work and couldn't see the answer anywhere obvious... Will the Fringe wristbands be available from the DMH box office tomorrow? Many thanks and great work with the organising. Cheers.
