Los Campesinos original? No way, there are TONNES of twee indie pop bands that sound just like them, LC are just the first to break it into the (slightly more) mainstream. It's a very limited genre, so all bands that try it end up sounding pretty much identical. The only thing that sets LC apart is their use of self referential witty lyrics (i.e. the same thing that set Arctic Monkeys apart a few years ago).

Personally i think most magazines are pretty shite and if you only stick to one of them you end only ever listening to one type of music. I sometimes pick up DJ Mag and Wire even less often. I rarely I buy the NME but am always left wondering why I've wasted my money when I do, just like the rare times I buy some crap from McDonalds.

Wye Oak

OWL - Free album to download here

Scenic Square - Can only find 2 songs by them, but those 2 songs are great

Boy Eats Drum Machine - Free EP to download here

Mountain Man

Menomena - Not really unknown, but nowhere near as known as they should be. Their new album (Mines) is AMAZING, best thing I've heard in a long time.

Indie this...indie that.. personally I can't be bothered with 'genre BS' tags. It's music, simple as that. You get it or you don't. It touches and inspires you or it doesn't.... one man's meat is another man's poison etc...

It ain't just me. Last summer I saw them have 3,000+ people put their fingers in their ears for the duration of their set.

I've not heard them on record (not so I've noticed, anyway), so they can perhaps gain a bit of credibility back that way, but live they were truly dreadful. Dirge of the very worst kind.

At the same festival a year or three before I saw the same thing happen with Bombay Bicycle Club, while the indie kids were raving about them on forums such as these. And now they're considered a perfect example of landfill.

So make of that whatever you will. What I make of that is that I'm ahead of the game. Come back in three years and tell me again I'm wrong. :)
