surfncanoe
Hi all, Thinking about Wickerman this year. Has anyone on hear been before and if so, what type of festival is it. Is it a mainly teenage audience or do lots of families go as well. I am currently doing Cambridge Folk festival and Beautiful days, if this helps. Thanks Ian
Leprekorn
We found it very family friendly last year. That was with a 10 year old boy.

kirsty50
Or you could try Big Tent - it's on the same weekend as the Wickerman though. Definitely doesn't have a fun fair but there's loads for kids to do - more things to do with nature, environment etc + family orientated shows. Family friendly campsite. It's not nearly as big as Wickerman but is set on an estate so you can go explore other places as well. Under 12s free etc. www.bigtentfestival.co.uk
Chay
It's a very family friendly festival. A lot of my friends take their kids. It's also regularly nominated in the 'best family festival' category at the Festival Awards.

Chay
Thank you Paul.* Shame you wont be at Wickerman. Stay golden pony boy! *To be fair, the nomination/payment thing, that's actually wrong. Can't be bothered going into it, the sun's out, my lawn need's done, and that ipod wont update itself.

In the festival awards run by VF the festival itself pays to put itself in the running. They pay a couple of hundred quid for the pleasure as well
llcoolphil
Hi guys, I'm the Managing Director of the UK Festival Awards. I want to put to bed any misconceptions about how the Awards work: There is NO charge for festivals to be nominated, shortlisted or win - or indeed at any point in the process. Festivals nominate themselves onto a longlist for free, then it is voted for online by fans. No money changes hands at all. We would be shooting ourselves in the foot if we made people pay to enter, as we just wouldn't get any entries! The Awards is not run by Virtual Festivals. Festival Awards Ltd is a separate company and VF is one of our media partners. Hope that makes things clearer!
Kowalski
How do I know which is the most family festival (for eg) if I haven't been to all the family friendly festivals nominated? You should call them 'vote for the festival you have been to awards' really.

Chay
Just in case anybody was wondering why Wickerman's not in any of the categories... From The Wickerman Festival website: Festival Awards 2010 In previous years the Wickerman has benefited from huge public support which has seen us pick up a Grass Roots gong and make many shortlists at the annual Festival Awards. For 2010 we are concentrating our efforts at this time on our links with the forthcoming Lake of Stars festival in Malawi and are also discussing a variety of ideas to mark the Wickerman's 10th anniversary. Last but by no means least we are also gearing for the 2011 ticket sale launch where a very special offer awaits every 10th ticket buyer. Tickets for the 2011 Wickerman go on sale at Halloween so keep checking back for details of our very special offer. eFestivals
Sorry to be writing in Wickermans thread on the awards. James can you confirm why the Awards are now stating they are nothing to do with VF (other than a media partner) when Steve Jenner from VF was a majority stakeholder/director only a year ago. Have the awards been sold on or is this a way to make them "look" more independent than they actually are?? This is out of pure interest and being nosy really. I'd say that statement from James was stretching the truth. Both the awards company and VF have Jenner as a director. Not only that, Jenner is also employed by a company that runs festivals. I'd guess he's saying that the awards are nothing to do with VF because VF was 'sold' recently, after financial difficulties that saw them lay off staff.
