John Lennon's killer up for parole again in NY

BUFFALO, N.Y. — John Lennon's killer will seek his freedom this week for a sixth time.

Mark David Chapman is scheduled to appear before a parole board at Attica Correctional Facility in upstate New York. It's Division of Parole policy to identify only the week, not the day, the hearing will take place.

Parole officials are expected to release their decision the day after the hearing and a transcript about a week later.

The former maintenance man from Hawaii has been in prison nearly 30 years for gunning down the former Beatle on a Manhattan sidewalk in 1980. He was sentenced to 20 years to life after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.

Now 55, Chapman has been denied parole five times, appearing before the board every two years since 2000.

I think it was based on the memoirs of his half-sister, wasn't it? The only thing I found uncomfortable about it was his relationship with his mother, it almost seemed incestious at times.

Agreed, it was a little uncomfortable to watch.

I watched the film last night, I thought it was pretty good. I was lacking in knowledge of Lennon's mother so the end was a bit of a shock!

She doesn't get hit by a car driven by an off duty police officer by any chance does she?

Interesting coincidence, years later, the bloke who was driving the car lost his job and became a postman - part of his job was delivering the bags of fanmail to Paul McCartney's house.

no? (Mull of Kintyre-ish time?)

yeah it was just a question on rob dj's pub quiz this morning.

which artist has had a uk no.1 as a solo artist, part of a duo, trio, 4-piece and larger than a 4-piece?

First Wings line up was Paul, Linda, Denny Laine and Denny Seiwel (who also played drums on Ram).

Although Band on the Run, a number 1 album, was credited as a trio. (Paul, Linda and Denny Laine). Ginger Baker played drums on a few of the tunes.

John Lennon article in the Guardian.

Talks about the car ad.

Sean: "But intention was not financial, was simply wanting to keep him out there in the world."

Richard Williams: Pull the other one, Sean. This is a man, your father, whose Wedgwood-style lavatory, originally installed at Tittenhurst Park, Ascot, his last home in Britain, was auctioned for £9,500 last month.

I think Across The Universe was a really good idea; it could have been a Moulin Rouge type of quality and brilliance, but instead the story was shit and so was most of the acting. However, this little arrangement of I Want To Hold Your Hand always strikes me as pretty good:
