for you maybe. if you read my previous posts i have given you a nice selection of videos of artists who use this to their advantage by using their free hands/co-ordination to make their show better, be this by increased crowd interaction or a controlled audio visual show.

I thought that when they were being Soulwax, they were a "proper" live band (although I've not seen them).

... and when they're being 2 Many DJs, they mix records, and don't pretend to be making live music.

They use Ableton but the very fact they have 4 Moog Voyagers in there means that there is actually synthesis happening in ze pyramid, not just triggering samples with Ableton. Granted not quite fully live but a mix of both.

That may well be but why have 4 synthesizers? They can't just be for show because nobody can see them lol

No, it's a terrible analogy. Because neither the computer artist nor the pencil artist expects you to watch them draw. They just show you the finished article. So that's like listening to a CD.

What I've suggested is that it's less interesting to watch a person operating a sequencer, than it is to watch a person playing an instrument (be it electronic or not). And twiddling knobs to change the timbre isn't enough to make it interesting to watch.
