what do you think it would take for the festival to be affected?

as vulgar as it sounds does anyone know the amount of casualties needed before the government put some sort of action plan (i'd imagine it's all relative but some sort of rough estimate) into place for large gatherings/close quarters activities ie public transport/national quarantine in order to try and quell the spread ?

but being honest i see it more as a way for the government to keep us in order i.e sars/antharax/avian flu even mad cow disease, they all amounted to grave pandemics

whichever statement you read there i come off paranoid...oh well

Looks like airlines are being hit. http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/feedarticle/8477117

It could certainly curtail international travel in the short term but I guess it's too early to see how it pans out (no pandemic pun intended).

I feel I should add a flying pigs pun but you'll just have to settle for a picture.

if anyone is serious then pay attention to the news tomorrow, the WHO will be reassessing the situatiuon tomrrow and may well upgrade the pandemic level from 3 to 4. This would entail strict border controls.

that's not correct - the level has now been increased from 3 to 4, yet there's no strict border controls been introduced.

It seems to be the case that they've already pretty much given up on trying to contain it, and they're going the direction of trying to treat it in the infected. For the UK - which has enough tamaflin(sp?) to treat half the population - I guess that's not any big issue but I'd guess that some other countries are going to be in a huge panic.

But we need to keep things in perspective - it's pretty much just another version of flu (real flu - not man-flu). That means that far less than 50% are likely to get infected, and in western countries where there's decent nutrition and decent healthcare it's extremely unlikely to be fatal to anyone but those already in a weakened state of health (such as some elderly) and perhaps some others who don't seek treatment - remember, a number of people die each year in the UK from the more standard strains of flu that go around, but without any of this media fuss. If a person gets treatment then it's likely to be not a huge deal.

Meanwhile, today's Daily Express says we're all gonna die. :D

    • its diabolical already 😞 .... The refs should have walked out in solidarity
    • The main problem with these is that noone really predicts the shocks that happen in the early knockouts or quarters, so it inevitably gets to like what I put in the semis (France v Spain and Eng vs Arg). You always end up with 4/6 of the top sides reaching the semis, and this is with me 'predicting' Swiss to beat Portugal.   I think we will see a shock result against a top 5-6 team of an African/Asian side knocking a favourite out, and I can see one of the big guns resting heavily for a 3rd group game and ending up 2nd place in their group, which would throw these whole brackets out of whack.   I think the main interesting thing from the brackets, is that if you're only caring about 'likely' group winners, you have France/Spain/Germany/Belgium/Netherlands (who I'm not convinced top group F, that group seems v exciting to me), all on one side of the bracket. Albeit the other side is England/Brazil/Arg/Portugal, but the European giants do seem weighted towards one half.   'best 3rd place' is very hard to call, I suspect there might be 1 or 2 who get 6 points (tied with 2nd) but are there on goal difference/head to head, while others could be on 3 or even 2 points. I also don't actually know if a bunch of these middle-Eastern teams who I've predicted to finish bottom are that bad. I think the ConCaCaf lot who've qualified partially by virtue of the 3 strongest teams all being hosts probably are 0-1 point teams mostly, but I wonder if there's some near-Asian teams I'm underestimating.   I'm honestly really excited though.
    • Early Bird tickets at €245 if you’ve been this year.
    • €225 plus fees (as a 2026 ticketholder and with Revolut) is a crazy good deal.
    • I don't think PJ has as much broad appeal in the UK as GNR has. Rock listeners will know Alive and Jeremy so on, but which songs would a random person off the street know? With GNR you have Welcome To The Jungle, Sweet Child O Mine and Paradise City to name a few.
