Famous Four for Glastonbury

Four, rather than three, top music acts are scheduled to headline at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, organiser Michael Eavis has announced. But he won’t confirm the identities of the famous four until later in the spring.

Michael was speaking after receiving the Green World Award at this week’s Midem music business conference in Cannes. The award was given in recognition of the festival’s “significant and long-standing commitment to preserving the environment”.

He added tantalisingly that two of the headline acts would be from the UK and two from the United States.

Reflecting the political wind of change sweeping through the US after President Obama’s inauguration, Michael, who has been a lifelong supporter of CND, said that it was time the UK government made some radical choices as well. “If they cancelled the Trident nuclear missile programme, which will cost a ridiculous £25 billion, then the money could be spent on worthwhile projects to help people through the present economic crisis. In a world where a new US President is looking to bring people together, it’s crazy to carry on fuelling the arms race.”

Glastonbury makes annual donations to good causes including Oxfam, WaterAid and Greenpeace, which strongly opposes the Trident replacement programme. Three former British army generals also last week publicly opposed Trident on the basis that it served no military purpose whatsoever.

Although festival-goers have now committed themselves to buying most of this year’s tickets, Michael said, those who have paid a deposit need to be reminded that the deadline for paying the balance is the end of Sunday 1st February. Pay your ticket balance now at www.seetickets.com/g2009

well it does contain a little more info as the previous statement released was regarding a possible 4 headliners and now this confirms that there will be four, also it now names their nationalities two UK acts and two US acts which effectively rules out that Neil Young Rumour.

and that source seems to be from the official facebook group (it's worded exactly the same as a new official addition to the news section there anyway) where as it was previously the NME who said about the possibility of 4 hgeadliners wasn't it?

All of these things have come from one set of words spoken by Eavis at Midem, and what has gone on the Glasto site is a poor reporting of what was said - Eavis said 'possible'.

He also said at that time 2 UK and 2 'american' acts.
